Robyn's Nest Educational Services in the Community
Apr 26, 2022 12:00 PM
Education of children and their families is a passion for Robyn. She spent over twenty years in the early childhood and elementary classrooms, combined within private and public schools. During that time, she served as a general and inclusion classroom teacher in Kindergarten, First and Fourth Grade, as well as a reading interventionist across all elementary grade levels. With a focus on voice and stringed instruments, Robyn spent numerous years as a classroom and private music teacher. She also served as a school administrator within the private school sector. The majority of her years were spent in the Kindergarten classroom where she offered a foundation for lifelong learning in young lives, plus she worked with the whole family to strengthen learning opportunities in the full life of the child, outside the walls of the classroom. Robyn focused on curriculum design and educational law in her master level studies. Her doctoral work continued on the path of education, specifically discovering new ways to guide young children on a successful journey of learning and development. In 2015 she earned her PhD in Education, with a specialization in Learning, Instruction, and Innovation. Her dissertation included of a case study in underserved populations of San Antonio, with a goal to identify ways to obtain and increase parent involvement in the kindergarten classroom, to then enhance the development of the young students. After graduation, Robyn joined the faculty at a university, specifically within the Teachers College, to facilitate the education of aspiring teachers who would fill future classrooms. She has now expanded her work and serves across all colleges within the university as a faculty trainer, for both new and seasoned faculty members. Working with children and families daily in the classroom, and moving through her doctoral studies, Robyn carried her vision to guide children to find greater heights in their development. Upon completing her PhD, she founded a charitable organization in San Antonio. Robyn’s N.E.S.T. has a mission to Nurture Early Success & Teaching. This volunteer-operated foundation guides young children and their families as they discover a strong foundation for literacy, numeracy, social skills, and a lifetime of learning. Their full length, robin’s egg blue painted bus is out of the ordinary as you step inside. It is filled with learning centers, books, and numerous activities to engage each child and family member who steps onboard. Discoveries in learning occur in the traveling classroom and far beyond with Robyn’s N.E.S.T. Aside from her foundation, Robyn serves in other capacities throughout the community. She is a Rotarian and offers her time on the service committee of her local chapter. Robyn continues her work of education within children’s ministry at her local church, plus offers her expertise as the chairman of a local, private school board. She assists with multiple literacy councils across the city, delivers content within organizational and individual training sessions, and presents at various education conferences. Robyn is a lifelong learner and strives to share that joy for learning with others each day. |

If you are lucky, you will have several mentors throughout your career because they will share their experience or expertise with you in terms of setting career goals, making good career choices, and helping you grow on a professional and personal level. Each mentor/mentee relationship is different, but building rapport with each other is important on both sides. Being open and honest and establishing trust are also crucial elements of the relationship.
