Every Rotary club needs a way to fund the programs and projects that reflect the passions of its members. At the University Area Rotary Club, our commitment spans both local and international outreach, with a strong focus on making a tangible difference in the Greater Houston area.
Our local service initiatives include:
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library – Providing free books to young children.
Nursing Scholarships – Supporting students at six Houston-area universities.
Operation Turkey – Delivering Thanksgiving meals to inner-city shut-ins.
Texas Fire Fighters Home (TFFH) – Offering free housing for first responders receiving cancer treatment at the Texas Medical Center.
To support these meaningful programs, we rely on a simple yet powerful fundraising model—our Flag Program.
Launched over a decade ago, this patriotic effort places high-quality U.S. and Texas flags on 10-foot poles in front of homes across the Rice Village and Memorial neighborhoods. We install more than 500 flags on four major holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Patriot Day (9/11), and Veterans Day.
It’s a team effort that unites nearly every club member—and proudly showcases the patriotism of both Rotarians and our subscribers. These vibrant flags line streets near Rice University and the Bunker Hill area, creating a beautiful tribute to our nation.
