Prez Notess April 9, 2021

Hello Fellow Rotarians!

I hope you all are enjoying the warmer, Spring weather!

This past week we had our monthly Club Assembly.  Our Foundation Chairperson, Janet Stanzak, provided us with a recap of the 2020 year which included the Foundation’s sources of income, those projects and charities (both internationally and locally) that our Foundation made contributions towards, and the overall financial philosophy of our Foundation, among other things.  It was an awesome presentation!  Our Club certainly makes a difference not only in our community, but internationally as well—thanks to all of you, our corporate sponsors, and our community partners!  If you would like to become a member of the Foundation Board, we are looking for two or three new board members.  Please reach out to Janet if you are interested.  In a separate e-mail, I will provide you with a PDF of Janet’s presentation.  Many thanks to Janet for putting this together and presenting it in such a comprehensive and understandable manner—even while on vacation!!!  Whoop whoop!!!

During our Club Assembly, we also formally inducted Al Norby, Rod Provart, and Tina Strait into our Club.  Unfortunately, our newest Club Member, Robin Gordon, was unable to attend, but we will be sure to formally induct Robin at the next earliest opportunity!!  As a reminder, Al Norby is the Executive Director of Love INC, Rod Provart is the Executive Director of Open Hands Foundation, Tina Strait is retired and loves working with children and making a difference in our community, and Robin Gordon is the Director of Equity and Inclusion for Independent School District 112.  Please introduce yourselves to all of our new members and warmly welcome them into our Club!!  Please get to know all of our members on a personal level!!!

Last week while I was on vacation, we concluded our Influencer Series with Rep. Dean Phillips.  Thanks to Jackie Johnston for filling in for me during my absence, and a very special thanks to John DeSanto, Barb Nevin, and the rest of the Influencer Series Committee for their hard work and dedication in making the Influencer Series a tremendous success.  Last, but not least, thanks to Maud and Brian Duggan, and their business, Union Place, for sponsoring breakfast for our guests at the Legion during the Influencer Series!  Way to go Maud and Brian!!!

If you have not yet already, you will soon be receiving our Club’s fundraising solicitation mailer.  As mentioned above, and as recapped by Janet during her presentation, we really do some amazing things—including funding student service scholarships and STRIVE scholarships, and funding and partnering with local charities.  In light of Covid, coupled with the cancellation of the 4th of July Beer Garden last year, our fundraising efforts are down and we are dipping into our reserves.  And, it does not appear that any 4th of July festivities this year will be anywhere near what they have historically been in the past due to Covid restrictions which, of course, means a further deficit to our fundraising efforts and reserves.  Please strongly consider donating to our Club’s Foundation.  Here is the link:  Donate
On behalf of our Club and Foundation, I truly appreciate your consideration and support.

On Saturday, April 10th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, District 5950 is holding a District Training Assembly.  You all have received numerous e-mails about registering for this event.  Please consider doing so.  I am registered.  If you no longer have the e-mail or link, you can get to the link by visiting either our Club’s website or District 5950’s website.
Remember, you get out of Rotary what you put into it!!  It’s a great way to get more acquainted and learn some new things.  Please consider registering.

In the words of our District 5950 Polio Plus Chairperson, Tim Mulcrone, “Miss a Meeting, Miss A Lot.”  Don’t miss out!!!

Missed you all last week … Have a great rest of the week and weekend!!
