Chanhassen HS Interact Camp Out to Benefit Disaster Survivors
The Chanhassen High School Interact Club presents the ShelterBox Anti-Freeze Camp out on Friday and Saturday January 22-23, 2016.
The camp out is a fundraiser for ShelterBox, which provides shelter and other non-food essentials to global survivors of natural and man-made disasters. For starters, the Interact Club's goal is to raise at least $500 in donations to earn a matching grant from both the Rotary Club of Chanhassen and Rotary District 5950. Every $1000 raised sponsors one ShelterBox, which provides a family a tent, blankets, water filters, solar lights, tools and other essentials.
Campers bring their own tents and sleeping gear to the Chanhassen Recreation Center starting at 5pm on Friday. After 6pm dinner, campers will learn about the challenges of responding to major disasters worldwide through a series of team-based activities using actual ShelterBox gear. After debriefing, campers will enjoy s'mores and camp fires. Breakfast will be provided on Saturday morning.
The cost to camp out is $15. Those who wish to enjoy the Friday night program, but not camp out, can also participate for $15. Participants can also buy a LuminAID solar light, that was recently featured on Shark Tank, for an additional $30. All participants are asked to bring a can of non-creamed soup for dinner on Friday night. Any extra cans of food will be donated to PROP, which provides emergency food to families in Chanhassen and Eden Prairie.
ShelterBox is a global disaster relief charity that provides shelter, warmth and dignity to disaster survivors. ShelterBox has served more than 1 million disaster people since its founding in 2000. In 2015, ShelterBox responded to 22 disasters in 19 locations around the world, providing more than 28,000 families with lifesaving aid. Learn more at www.shelterboxusa.org.
