Sofia's presentation will review U.S. Bank’s corporate social responsibility strategy and community impact work – the bank’s focus areas for community investment, the why behind community investment, and how U.S .Bank is committed to this work now and in the long-run. Sofia Terzic is an Assistant Vice President and Community Affairs Manager at U.S. Bank. In this role, she leads U.S. Bank’s community strategy, philanthropy efforts, and employee community engagement work for the state of Minnesota. Sofia has been with U.S. Bank for 4.5 years, always in a role supporting U.S. Bank’s Foundation or community affairs efforts. Sofia has her undergrad from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management as well as her MBA from Carlson. She focused her studies on marketing and international business. Outside of work, Sofia serves on the board of the Corporate Volunteerism Council – Twin Cities and Generation Next, as well as on the Latino Scholarship Fund Committee for the Latino Economic Development Center. In her free time, Sofia enjoys playing tennis and enjoying Chanhassen’s many trails and parks. |

Our speaker this week is Richard Gunderson, the founder and owner of Career Job Transition LLC. Richard is a consultant, coach, speaker, and author, with his latest book "The Great Awakening of American Business." We will also celebrate our Rotary club's 35th anniversary, with our two charter members: Tim Mulcrone and Brad Johnson. Each member/guest attending can share a favorite memory of our Chanhassen Rotary club through the years.

He was re-elected last month to the Chanhassen City Council, where Jerry has served for the past 15 years. In 2022, our Rotary Club of Chanhassen awarded the Distinguished Service Award to Jerry McDonald. |

Rotary projects in Haiti: Days for Girls Enterprise Sewing & Mango Community Family Farm

Please join us this Wednesday, January 11th 2023 as we welcome Ellen Schreder as our guest speaker. Ellen will join us via ZOOM from Haiti, where she is spending the month of January continuing the critical work that is being done there. The newest endeavor is Mango Community Family Farm. This 21 acre parcel of land is being used to employ and feed many people in and around the community of Lagosette, Haiti. If you would like to learn more about this project and other projects being done in Haiti, this presentation will be given at the Chanhassen American Legion Post 580 and starts at 7 am. Breakfast will be served! If you are unable to attend in person, you may participate via Zoom. Kendall is President of the nonprofit organization TakeCharge, which strives to unite Americans regardless of background toward a shared history and common set of beliefs. Though he grew up in poverty and neither of his parents finished high school, Mr. Qualls worked full-time to pay for college, served as an officer in the U.S. Army, and earned three graduate degrees. He worked his way up the ranks at several Fortune 100 healthcare companies before he became Global Vice President of an $850M business unit.

Join the Chanhassen Rotary as we host a panel discussion to learn more about the growing issue of homelessness in Carver County. Heather Tran from A Better Society and Chanhassen Rotarian will be our moderator for the morning. She and her husband Khai, founded this organization to link other charities to connect services with people in need. Our panelists include Greg Pavett, Allison Steich, and C J Hallman. Greg will share how his non-profit The Humanity Alliance and Unitē Lodge is providing supportive housing as a tool to break cycles and change lives. Allison Streich is the Deputy Director for Carver County CDA and currently serves as the Vice President of Community Revitalization and Development for MN NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials). She will update us on the recent programs to provide affordable housing opportunities with innovative land purchases to support people who have been left out of home ownership opportunities. C. J. Hallman will also be joining us as Senior Manager at 180 Degrees. C. J. also sits on the Board of the Flaherty Family Foundation. 180 Degrees is the operational arm at Hope House which provides emergency shelter to youth in our community. The Chanhassen Rotary is proud to provide this special opportunity for community members to gather and benefit from our speaker's insights. Are you struggling to find balance between your profession, family, personal goals and giving back to your community? What does that even look like? Are you curious how giving back to your community can be part of your goals? Tim Mulcrone will be our moderator and has been a leader in Rotary since joining in 1987 as a charter member. He has served Rotary in many ways including a 3-time president and current Chair of the Polio Plus program in District 5950. Tim has accomplished so much, all while leading a long career in law enforcement, and being a devoted parent and grandparent alongside his wife Ginger. We will be welcoming Sharon Bloodworth as a panelist. Sharon is the CEO of White Oaks Wealth Advisors, one of the largest independent investment advisory firms in Minnesota wholly owned by a woman. She was honored as a 2013 “Top Women in Business” and a 2010 “40 under 40” recipient by the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal. In 2019, Sharon received the Marty Baskerville Philanthropy Award from Rotary Club 9 which is awarded for lifetime achievement in philanthropy, and the Vistage Lifetime Achievement Award for leadership as a CEO. Sharon has been a member of Rotary Club 9 for 19 years and served as its president along the way. She has been elected District Governor of our district 5950 for 2024-2025. Sharon co-chaired two district conferences and was program co-chair for the 2021 Rotary Zone Institute. Jewelie Grape will also be joining our discussion. Jewelie has been a member of Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club since 2005, where she has held various positions including program chair, secretary, and president. She has also been active on the District level and is honored to be the current District 5950 District Governor-Elect. Jewelie has several decades of experience in legal, corporate, and non-profit matters, working in Fortune 100 companies and large law firms, and as in-house counsel for a large non-profit benefits board. In 2019 Jewelie decided to open her own law firm so she could provide best-in-class legal counsel to small and medium sized companies and non-profits. Al Norby will be our moderator for our final Influencer Series event. We are lucky to have Al on our Chanhassen Rotary team since 2016 because of his big heart and commitment to the improvement of people's lives in Carver County. As the Executive Director of Love INC Carver County since 2018, he works to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in Carver County, Minnesota. Love Inc. seeks to be a meaningful community partner that creates collaborative infrastructure to compassionately gift people with daily essentials. It’s the difference between offering a hand up, versus a handout. Patti Sinykin, the current Executive Director at Bountiful Basket Food Shelf, has more than 10 years’ experience addressing food insecurity and over 20 years of non-profit experience. Patti is dedicated to the community and making a difference. Mary Hernandez is the Executive Director and co-founder of Mi CASA, which assists students and families of all backgrounds and focuses on the Latino community in Scott & Carver County. Part of their programming helps students stay active and engaged during the summer by providing transportation to athletic and academic outlets. She has built a reputation for being an advocate for others. Hernandez is co-founder of the Shakopee Diversity Alliance, a former member of the St. Francis Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, an at-large member of the Shakopee Community Education Advisory Council, and former cultural liaison for the 112 & 720 School Districts. The Chanhassen Rotary is proud to provide this special opportunity for community members to gather and benefit from our speaker's insights. Please join us Wednesday morning April 5th at the American Legion in Chanhassen as we welcome Bill Swanstrom, Director of River Valley Health Services. Bill will talk with us about who RVHS is and the services they provide to both the uninsured and the under insured. Bill has a Masters Degree in Public Health and is a licensed independent Social Worker. He has traveled the world, did two tours in Vietnam with the Navy and worked in the banking industry for 27 years. He loves to walk, golf, canoe, fish and travel. Please join us Wednesday morning at 7 am at the American Legion in Chanhassen. Breakfast will be served and all are welcome! |
