 All About Youth Service
 
 
 
Today's awesome lunch meeting speaker was our own Kris Wyatt, 37 yrs as Teacher, Student Counselor and School Board member.  And, by popular vote, Lincoln's  Volunteer of the Year.  She was also Lincoln Rotary's first Woman President and is our long-time Youth Services Chair. 
 
 
Her speaker topic was the many Youth Services projects that our club does.  And what an impressive list (for the 2014-2015 Rotary year):
 
  • Sponsored three students to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp
  • Sponsored Sarah Sheridan as RYE outbound exchange student to Brazil
  • Sponsored Beatrice Galletto as RYE inbound exchange student from Italy
  • Sponsored Interact/Key Club at Lincoln High (with Kiwanis)
  • Collected and distributed school backpacks to Sheridan Elementary School
  • Books for Bikes literacy project - 7 schools with 21 bikes awarded
  • Book Buddies literacy project, reading with 20 students at Creekside bi-weekly
  • Participated in Character Building Projects at Creekside and 1st Street schools
  • Honored LHS Students of the Month at Lunch meetings
  • Scholarships to LHS students committed: 4 @ $1,000 each
  • Scholarships to LHS students from Bradford Fund committed: 2 @ $1,000/yr for 4 years
  • Support for Sober Grad Event (6/5)
  • Additional Scholarships for continuing students from Lincoln: 2 @ $3,800 total
  • Other Gifting
    • GEMS School Booster Club - $100
    • Lincoln Little League - $500
    • Lincoln Girls Softball - $500
    • Lincoln Sober Grad - $1,001
    • Emmaus Church Community/Axiom - $5,000 to start Lincoln Youth Center
    • Every 15 Minutes Drinking and Driving Program at LHS - $500
    • Financial assistance for ReDirect students attending college - $1,500
    • Elementary School Character Building Projects - $3,400
    • Western Placer USD Pay It Forward Fund - $100
    • Salt Mine (for Youth Activities) - $500 
 Truly, we should all be proud of these accomplishments and be grateful for Kris'  dedication and efforts.  She certainly exemplifies our motto Service Above Self.
