So. Africa Khayalethu School Project
Shirley Russell Paul Harris Fellow Award

The meeting started out with our pledge of allegiance, invocation, 4-way test and singing. We followed this with our great lunch and then club business. (See Meeting Slides.)

ImageWow. Joann and Mike just had their 30th wedding anniversary.  And, they had a great time in Antigua. Gail and Paul just returned from several weeks in Hawaii. Ken George won the drawing, but no ace of spades.

Karen briefly described the revised bylaws with specific changes for member termination that had been sent to all members previously.  Ken Campbell made a motion to accept; Jerry Johnson seconded. The vote for acceptance was unanimous.

A special presentation was made to give Paul Harris Award to Shirley Russell.  Shirley has been a longtime Lincoln resident, teacher and leader in supporting Lincoln youth, the Lincoln Library and Lincoln Area Archive Museum to name a few.  Presentations on what Shirley has done were made by Jerry, Paul and Elizabeth.  Thanks to all of Shirley’s friends that attended to watch Clark give her the award.

Clark reported that we have just surpassed our $7,500 goal for Rotary Foundation giving – but don’t stop.  Also, please let Clark know if you are interested in using your PH recognition points to give a Paul Harris award to someone else in April.

Our speaker was Mark Woolgar from the Point West (Sacramento) Rotary Club. Mark was originally from South Africa and spoke about the Khayalethu South Africa Children's Centre that his club supports. The school is set up to house and educate young boys who would normally end up on the street and on drugs in the region near Port Elizabeth.  This project is supported by a Rotary International Global Grant; our club also supports the project.

Remember: We have a food drive at the meeting on Feb. 20th.  Clean out your pantries!!!
