2013 Nov 21 Meeting - RotaPlast
Our speaker was Wendall Alderson, a friend of Richard and Penny Pearl who is a surgeon. Wendell went on a Rotaplast mission to India in 2012 (and one before), and had some great stories to tell about his adventure. 
He also explained the mission of Rotaplast to help children with cleft lips or palates, as well as severe skin problems due to being burned (for both children and adults).
We had a Rotary guest from Bermuda. Greg Smith is in Lincoln at least annually to visit his daughter. He is president elect of Rotary Club of Hamilton. We met him at the Bikes for Books event at 12 Bridges Elementary. We had several other guest who were potential Rotarians. And, it was announced that Rose Ruiz has been approved for club membership. Welcome Rose.
Paul announced that the club has funded $500 as part of a shared project in Bangladesh to provide clean water. He also reported that our donations to the Philippines typhoon disaster was about $2000 with additional funding coming in.
We were pleased to have the LHS students of the month as our guests, accompanied by their advisor Lisa Noma. Ken asked for volunteers for the Dec. 6 Blood Drive setup and cleanup and our members stepped up to help. MaryAnn won the drawing and drew the Ace of Spades!
Karen reported that leaves of absence had been granted to Bill Smith (1 year) and Melanee Bergavin (3 months). She also showed us a certificate from the Western Placer Unified School District awarding us for our literacy programs in Lincoln - e.g. Bikes for Books).
Lincoln Rotarians cleaned out their pantries and brought food for delivery to the Salt Mine. 
As enticement, tickets were provided with Sue and David W. winning a bottle of wine, and Art winning olive oil (which he promptly gave to Wendell, who according to Richard is an excellent chef).
Jerry asked for support in helping the Senior Gleaners to pack food for the needy on Dec. 7 (1951 Bell, Sac.).
