The Grand Opening of the renovated McBean Park Stadium and the Grand Opening of William Jessup University baseball season was held on Saturday, January 28, 2017. This grand event was attended by ~1,000 Lincolnites and friends who were treated to some extraordinary grand opening ceremonies including a fly-over, fireworks, etc. followed by 2 high quality baseball games. We are viewing this event as the first of many baseball events to take place in Lincoln this year – hence THE YEAR OF BASEBALL IN LINCOLN tag line. In addition to William Jessup using McBean Stadium as their home field, the newly reformed Lincoln Potters, a wood-bat collegiate team will be playing in the Great West League during the summer months at McBean Stadium as will the Lincoln Little League Juniors and Seniors AND the Lincoln High School Varsity baseball team will be playing their 2017 opening day game on Friday, February 24th starting at 330PM at McBean Park Stadium.
A key part of THE YEAR OF BASEBALL IN LINCOLN involves our Lincoln High School Baseball team. In addition to having their 2017 opening day on Friday, February 24th the Fighting Zebras will also hold their 7th Annual Baseball Fundraiser Dinner on that same evening at McBean Park Pavilion. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a no-host bar. Dinner will be served starting at 7:00 p.m. and will include tri-tip, chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, roll and dessert. The event will include a raffle and silent and live auction. Proceeds from the event help the baseball program with field maintenance expenses, purchasing equipment and uniforms, and a current effort to renovate the school's batting cages. Tickets are $20 per person. For tickets or additional information, please contact Susie Flowers-Williams at (916) 747-8843.
So come enjoy the game at 330pm and then head over to the McBean Park Pavilion for the fundraiser dinner. Your support of the fund-raising dinner will be greatly appreciated and will help to continue to make 2017 THE YEAR OF BASEBALL IN LINCOLN.
