The Rotary Club of Doylestown awarded college scholarships to three Central Bucks High School students.

The Youth of Doylestown & The Doylestown Rotary Club

This June, as they have for the past 25 Junes, The Doylestown Rotary Club will fulfill their commitment to 3 more local graduating high school seniors.  These three seniors will be the recipients of installment number one of a renewable scholarship which is evidence of the commitment these young people have made to personal excellence as well as a commitment to community values.  Central Bucks East, Central Bucks West and Central Bucks South seniors are eligible for this scholarship which honors students that have proven through their involvements in community they embody the ideals of Rotary and its motto of “Service Above Self”.

These three people have surfaced through a screening process that begins with the guidance departments of their schools.  It continues through a competitive interview process conducted by a Rotary team seeking the most outstanding examples of high ethical as well as academic standards.  These will join the rolls of students of students who have been selected to receive the Doylestown Rotary Scholarship since 1988.  To date there have been 75 students selected to receive the one thousand dollar scholarship.

Doylestown Rotary's goal is to not only find these exemplary individuals, but to influence their lives to make a further commitment.  The students are required to make contact with a local Rotary Club where they are attending college and develop a relationship with that club through further demonstrations of community service.  Additionally they are required to report back to the Doylestown club on this involvement as well as regular updates on their academic achievements.  If the student has fulfilled these requirements, then they will receive a second and a third and a fourth installment of $1,000 dollars to be used to continue their higher education.  Currently there are 12 area students who receive the benefit of these $1,000 dollar scholarships.

Through the years, The Doylestown Rotary Club has utilized a variety of fund raising activities to endow this scholarship program.  Raffles, banquets and casino nights have all been productive tools in funding these worthwhile scholarships.  The Rotarians readily recognize that not only is this a community benefit scholarship, but it is also one generated by the support of the club membership and the community at large.

Reports from these students as their academic years unfold and beyond that into their career advancement have shown the Rotarians that this is a worthwhile project in the development of the Doylestown community's greatest resource; The Youth of Doylestown.
