On October 22, 2014 the Rotary Club of Doylestown celebrated its 90th year of “Service above Self” at the historic Aldie Mansion in Doylestown PA.  Seventy local Rotarians and their guests were joined by Rotary District Governor Gary Fedorcha and Past District Governor Tony Jannetta for the clubs celebration.
 
President John Ortolf began the evening with remarks centered on the clubs 90 years of contributions to the community, and the contributions of individual Rotarians. The celebration was an acknowledgement of the countless contributions the club has made and is still making to the community.
 
In just the past 5 years, the club has distributed over $80,000 in community grants, $60,000 in college scholarships, and the members individually gave $40,000 to the Rotary Foundation.  
 
Individual Rotarians were recognized for their years of membership in the club. The longest serving Rotarian present, with 54 years of service was Leigh Beard. Leigh was recognized with a certificate honoring his many years of dedicated service to the club.  Other long serving members are:

  • John Strong with 36 years,
  • Daniel Green -31 years
  • Richard Millham, Charles Pianko, William Vantine, and William Thomas with 30 years
  • Max Rose - 29 years,
  • James Schmitt – 28 years,
  • Russell Schulz and Chris Nurney  - 26 years,
  • William Norcross – 25 years,
  • William Angell – 23 years,
  • Serge Roman – 19 years,
  • Gary Funk – 16 years        
  • Robert Eichfeld – 13 years           
  • David Woffindin and Boyd Steinbach – 12 years
  • Janet Mintzer and Linda McCrillis – 10 years
 
The club recognized Multi-generational Rotary Families; J.Carroll Molloy, Sr. was a charter member of the club in 1924, his son J Carroll Molloy, Jr. joined in 1955, and his grandson, and current member, Nicholas Molloy joined in 1967. The club has had a Molloy as a member throughout its 90 year history.  Other multi-generation families are Charles Reed who was the father-in-law of John Gilhorn; Milt Rutherford and his son Bruce Rutherford, Roger Funk and his son Gary Funk, and Harry Steinbach and his son Boyd Steinbach.
