The Shakopee Celebrates Reading event was a success on Tuesday, April 17th, with about 640, 1st graders and their teachers, from the Shakopee School District in attendance! Thank you to all who volunteered and thanks to our leaders of this annual event, Lorri Helkamp and Barb Brekke! Harold Armstrong did a great job as emcee again this year.

The kids were clearly enjoying themselves and were all smiles as they got to clap hands with our local law enforcement, firefighters, school district officials, The Cat in the Hat and the Shakopee Saber! Our STRIVE students, whom are seniors at the high school, helped out as well. The program ended with each child receiving a brand new book and a little backpack of goodies to take home! This is what Service Above Self is all about. Thank you to the 1st graders for putting smiles on our faces as well!
