Tom Rankin - honoured by the Rotary Club of St. Catharines.

There are many things that Tom Rankin does quietly. He really is a unique philanthropist as he gives generously without want or need of recognition.

In 2006 Tom began supporting a new charity with a mandate to raise funds for Niagara's cancer care services. Investing dollars and volunteer support, the Rankin Cancer Run was launched as a one-day walk/run event in St. Catharines. The first year it raised $230,000 - of which all the proceeds went to local cancer care facilities. By the end of 2010 the Rankin Cancer Run had raised $1.9 million dollars, which included $520,000 in 2010, and all of the funds stay in Niagara. Tom and Rankin Construction are committed to the future of the Rankin Cancer Run.

In addition to supporting the Rankin Cancer Run, his company has contributed significantly to the Niagara Health System, Hospice Niagara, Goodwill Niagara and Jericho House and provided title sponsorship for one of the four ice rinks at the Seymour Hannah Four Pad Arena in St. Catharines. The company has also completed major pledges for Alzheimer's Society, Niagara College and Brock University. Tom has also been a major supporter of the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique, Cape Breton which is a wonderful addition for tourists in Cape Breton.

Through Rankin Construction, Tom has promoted a culture of encouraging his employees to volunteer in the community, giving of both their time and their talents.

Tom has supported the community over the years with his expertise and concern, always wanting to make Niagara a better place in which to live. He is a strong advocate for Niagara.
