INTRODUCING THE GUEST SPEAKER: Dan Toppari

GUEST SPEAKER; Kristy McKiltrick & Colleen Lloyde-YMCA

Kristy told us that the YMCA is a Niagara wide charitable organization – serving 92,000 residents.  The YMCA is the largest employer of young people.  Families are always linked to the YMCA.  26% of the families are financially assisted.  Rising levels of obesity are shortening children’s lives so much that their parents may outlive them.  The YMCA has a collaborative partnerships with 5 programs which are Cardiac Rehab, FUEL program (Females Using Energy for Life), Swim to survive ( children in grade 3), SWIS( Settlement Warriors in School) & Pro Kids. Colleen told us how the YMCA changed her and her children’s lives.  Colleen was trained and hired for her new career, her children have grown with the many programs they offer and because of the support Colleen received from her colleagues and members, she found the courage to leave an abusive relationship.  Colleen and her children are off to a great beginning to a wonderful journey. Congratulations Colleen!
