Presidents report - Sheila Bristo

As any past club President will tell you, you hit the beginning of the Rotary year running.

The year started off by organizing the committees, getting the budget set, and inducting the new Board. With the leadership of Ian Forbes we had a successful Tour du Lac in July raising approximately $22,000 for the cardiac catheterization lab, next was Ribfest lead by Jason Pollock, and a  visit from our District Governor.  Despite our “Don’t Let the Summer End” event held on August 22, alas the summer did end.  We celebrated Tour du Lac with the Maycourt Club, Performance Cars and the riders and friends, supported the mobility cup which was a disabled sailing event held in Hamilton and donated $1,000 to end Polio.  With the other clubs in Niagara we are mentoring some Brock University students in the development of a Rotaract Club and we continue to work on our strategic plan.

Not bad for three and a half months.

As you will all know, we have suffered a decline in members at the same time for various reasons--however I am happy to announce that Ian Forbes has applied to become a member with our club again.

Today we are trying something different, having our Assembly at a regular meeting.  There are some important decisions to be made.  Najeeb will present some recommendations from his international committee, Cathy will discuss our continued support of Take it To Heart,  Debie will lead us through the year end financials for 10/11 and the budget for 11/12 and we  need to decide whether was can continue to sponsor 2 bingos and of course we will hear the reports from each of the Board members.

I would like to thank John D’Ambrosio who graciously has returned to the Board. I especially would like to thank John Teibert.  My club presidency coincided with a change in positions at work which requires me to be in Toronto more offen---hence my absence today. I selfishly did not want to give up my year as President and turned to John and Paul Monaghan for advice. Thankfully, John has been able to chair the meetings I am unable to attend which I greatly appreciate.

The months ahead look just as exciting.  If you haven’t already, please purchase your ticket for the Take it To Heart Gala.  This is a great event where you and your spouse/partner can get involved in the work of Rotary and the greater community.  The District Conference and Paul Harris recognitions are just around the corner, we have our interclub meeting, our meeting with Blasedale and our car rally which is May 6--mark your calendar.  And of course our weekly meetings continue to bring us together with extremely topical speakers arranged by Dan Toppari.

Rotary is what we make it and our club is what we make it.   Thank you for the continued honour of serving as your President and I welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Respectfully Submitted,

Secretary's Report - Cathy Henry

My position as Club Secretary and custodian of club records  is to make sure that all news items are properly sent to all members concerned and to take minutes at the monthly Board Meetings. I am also responsible for  assisting our Club President at District conferences if necessary.

A special thank you to Roseanne Morissette who has been guiding me through the difficult terminology of computers. I could not function without her.

As Co-Chairman of Take It To Heart I would like to announce that we are close to our magic number of 300 guests. The Gala committee is requesting that we extend the gala for one more year to help us reach our goal of $750,000.00. A request has been made to approach the NHS for verification of what happens if we do not reach our pledge goal. Do the naming rights of the Investigative Unit go elsewhere or will they accept what we will have raised to date of 2012. That will be done in the near future.

If we agree to extend for one more year-next year's venue must be booked now so that we do not run in to the problems pf space as we did this year.

I would like to move that we extend Take It To Heart for 2012.
