Paul Harris Fellow Recipient

"Our community benefits from 'big-picture' thinkers like Ian Forbes. Ian came up with a great fundraising idea and then used all his competitive skills to ensure that the project would be a success."

– Douglas Geddie, Geddie Advertising, and fellow cyclist/Rotarian.

Ian Forbes joined the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South in 1993. He became a very involved Rotarian from the start, looking after the club’s weekly bulletin, the South Mouth, as well as designing and keeping up-to-date the club’s website. Directorship and becoming Club President in 1999 were natural progressions for this dynamic club member.

In 2008, Ian’s life was altered, which put him on a new path of discovery and giving back to the community.  A passion for cycling and physical fitness became his occupation and hobby.  Within two years, Ian returned to our club as honourary member and made a presentation on an idea he had – a Rotary Tour du Lac.

The Rotary Tour du Lac  - a seven-day cycling adventure around Lake Ontario to raise awareness and funds for the Heart Investigative Unit of the new Niagara Health System – was launched mid-July 2010.  The event was so successful that over $23,000 was raised and a second Rotary Tour du Lac is being planned for July 2011.

Working with a dedicated committee, Ian’s passion and stewardship has inspired others to cycle for heart health. Today, we are delighted to have Ian back in optimal vitality and as an active member of our club.

For his vision, passion, and stewardship with Rotary Tour du Lac, the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South is proud to recognize Ian Forbes as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
