"Najeeb's ability to unite global communities for disparate noble and worthy causes is an inspiration to all. His deeds reflect a philosophy of optimism, caring, and compassion for those in need, both locally and abroad."

- Darrell Murphy, Niagara Health System

Najeeb Syed's commitment to "Service Above Self" is whole-hearted and extraordinary.

Najeeb emigrated to Canada from Pakistan in 1993 and, in 1995, opened PEDCO, a footcare clinic on Queenston Street in St. Catharines. It is here that Najeeb began to help friends and neighbours in need, collecting and distributing food during the winter months, mostly at his own cost.

Recently, Najeeb spearheaded a fundraising campaign for a tragically widowed woman and her children and assisted in her re-training plan so that she could take care of her family. This past summer, Najeeb also helped a local 17-year-old Sir Winston student, who suddenly became quadriplegic, and his family with renovations to their home.

Najeeb has worked with the Sunshine Foundation for disabled children. He co-founded Toys on Wings, a charity that gives children with physical challenges and life-threatening conditions helicopter rides over Niagara and Niagara Falls.

Najeeb's helping hand reaches internationally. We were all touched by the story of Noora from Kurdistan in Iraq who was born with a debilitating facial deformity. Najeeb acted - contacting friends and family in Pakistan to raise funds for medical assistance, which Noora is now receiving in Agha Khan Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. Najeeb has worked with the Pakistan Relief Organization of Niagara to assist friends and family back home struck by earthquakes and floods. And he is a supporter of the Islamic Relief Organization of Canada.

For his good work locally, nationally, and internationally, the Rotary Club of St. Catharines South is proud to recognize Najeeb Syed as a Paul Harris Fellow.
