Teaching Dyslexic Students to Read

Katherine Lackey, M.A. , E.T./P, C.B.I.S. is a licensed Arizona teacher with a Master’s Degree in Reading Improvement.  She is also an Educational Therapist and a nationally, Certified Brain Injury Specialist with over 30 years of experience as the Director of the Center for Educational Therapy (CET).  CET serves children and adults with learning disabilities (dyslexia & dyscalculia), developmental delays including Autism and ADD/ADHD,  processing disorders (sensory integration) and neurological insults such as strokes or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

As a Reading Specialist, Katherine is especially passionate about teaching individuals with dyslexia how to read and write.  Her program to remediate dyslexia, is research based using proven successful techniques, implementing the latest neurological technology to stimulate and integrate the appropriate areas of the brain to master reading skills.  

 

Description of Presentation for Rotary Club:

Teaching reading to dyslexic students is Rocket Science!  Understanding how the dyslexic brain works is key to implementing the best remedial reading techniques for successful outcomes.  Today’s insights through the science of MRIs and fMRIs have given us new neurological information to connect with dyslexics for greater, teaching effectiveness.  Katherine will speak on the latest brain imaging technology that can help us understand struggling dyslexic students and teach them effectively.
