President George then called for the introduction of our speaker:
Jean Armitage gave the introduction of Dave Sherlock short shrift – we all know Dave, and he is going to talk about himself anyway. So, here’s Dave!

Presentation:
Dave Sherlock  gave an excellent account of his life in St Catharines, with street scenes and aerial photographs from yore.
He included entertaining stories of relatives and farm animals, as well as his early life which included locomotives and buses, clearly pointing towards his vocation with the St Catharines Transit Commission. He then gave us examples of the Commission’s commitment to the community – Community Care, Gillian’s Place – and read a letter from a very satisfied customer who praised the service of one of the bus drivers.

Ron Fast warmly thanked Dave for his presentation, and told him of the donation to “Free the Children” in his name.

Announcements:
President George confessed to his own reminiscences in St Catharines, including dust-ups between protestant and catholic youth – which he attributed to ‘a religious thing’.

Chris Bangham reminded the club about the offsite meeting on October 20th at the Marilyn I Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts.

Jacquie Herman-Wing pumped up the club regarding the TV Auction. Last day for bringing in donations is next week – October 13th. We need 1,200!

President George had three more points to make:
· April 19th has been chosen for the joint meeting of Rotary Clubs – or it could be April 12th – stay tuned!
· If you go to the Rotary Leadership Training or the District Conference, the club will pay for your registration fees.
· Jennifer Hansen is riding herd on the golf club to come up with excellent food. Any comments, please talk to her.

Bob Gosselin talked about the VTT team looking to go to Australia. The ‘topic’ will be fruit and vineyard grapes – to learn and teach. He needs a team leader and three members, leaving late February for 3 weeks. Check out his upcoming email.

Birthdays:
Bob Lawler, Phil Kirwin, Peter Kudreikis, John Picken – Peter and Phil were in attendance to accept the applause of the club.

Anniversaries:
Stuart Butler 10 years, sponsored by Dave Butler, was not in attendance.

Happy Dollars:

Rob Depetris passed the basket to many happy people:
Vicky Rudachuk – praised the success of an anti-snoring machine for her husband Blaine
Rara Asaro – is now a very capable grandmother, having steered her grand-daughter through strep throat
Cindy Titus – guest of Rara – talked about her membership of an ‘eclub’ as the result of living in a sparsely populated community
Lenore Klassen – glad to have her family back  (from vacation I think)
Jackie Van Lankveld – happy to be back from a super cruise
Art Wing – at odds with President George regarding the joint meeting date – April 12th? Whichever it is, it will be worth attending!
Lezlie Murch – reported now 13 members of her newly-formed Interact club. And happy to see Liz back.
Jacquie Wing – in addition to her earlier chat about the auction, announced that we will be getting ‘save-the-date’ postcards for distribution
George Park – happy to report that Bill Orr is back home after a short spell in hospital
Liz Palmieri – thanks for all the support and encouragement while she was in hospital
Jean Armitage – glad that Dave had mentioned Eddie Shack in his presentation – Eddie’s from her home town
Mark Zammitt – a plug for the Mandolin Orchestra, and Happy Thanksgiving to all
Cindy Mewhinney – a plug for the Super Hero run

50/50:
Liz Palmieri was unable to pull an ace -  the pot grows!
