TRIBUTE TO  Dr. KEN GOODWIN - ROTARY 7090 DISTRICT, GIFT OF LIFE

John Rydzic, a representative from Rotary Club International's  Gift of Life gave the members a wonderful presentation, sharing some of the highlights of Ken's many years of  involvement in the Gift Of Life .

He told us that Ken  had the radical idea that he believed   children's surgery be performed   in their own country where they had family support and familiar surroundings. This  led to a medical team being formed and taken to Guatemala City where they now  have performed 30 successful heart surgeries over the years.

Ken was involved in many projects subsequently  but his most important legacy  was his personal "hands on" involvement with all the children and parents coming to Toronto for surgery.

John  Rydzic presented a  plaque to Ken's widow, Nicole.  Pictured on the plaque is  Vennia del Carmen the last child he helped through  The Gift of Life.

A cheque for $1600 was presented to John Rydzic which were  donations given  by individuals and friends of Niagara on the Lake Rotary Club in a tribute to  Dr Ken Goodwin's work and the 33 children he helped to save.

Look to The Niagara Advance this coming week for a story  on Dr Ken Goodwin  and the Gift of Life.
