CLUB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS November 14, 2023 Fleming Centre, Beamsville Club President Joanne Serkeyn called the meeting to order at 7:30am and welcomed 14 Lincoln Rotarians. Following the Land Acknowledgment, offered by Sue Foster, Phil Goodwin’s Thought for the Day featured his love for Niagara on the seventh anniversary of his move with his wife, Char, from Toronto to St Catharines. Specifically, he spoke about how thankful that his longstanding stewardship of the Don River with an environmental group in Toronto has transitioned to his volunteer activities with Trout Unlimited to provide a healthy habitat for the Brook Trout in 12 Mile Creek. He commented, “The icing on the cake was Rotary International making the environment a priority and our club is now supporting Trout Unlimited with funding and volunteering at tree plantings. So thanks Rotary for making this happen. The story continues…” Phil invited all to toast the King.  For her Point of Pride, Sue Foster highlighted our club’s Rotary Year 2022-23 accomplishments, which were recognized at the District 7090 Rotary Foundation Celebration in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Sunday, November 12. She proudly displayed the club’s Lighthouse Award Citation plaque & acknowledged former Club President Brenda Kell-Kotwa for her leadership for this award. Our club was also recognized as one of 24 of 68 total clubs in D7090 for contributing more than $1500 to The Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Fund during 2022-23. Sue suggested that every Lincoln Rotarians should take pride in these achievements. HAPPY BUCKS Lots of happiness for good health & wellbeing. Dale is liking the weather these days. David W - to be the Lamplighter Tour 2023 50/50 draw winner and happily looking forward to gifting his winnings to Village of Hope for their Christmas Hamper project Margaret - for the great turnout (19 students) who attended the November 8 meeting of the West Niagara Interact Club. Special thanks to Joanne for arranging the meeting and to Sue, Gayle & Jeanette for being on hand to introduce students to Interact in preparation for assisting them in organizing their club to take action during this school year Dave F - is sad to leave our club. He and Liz are moving back to Guelph following their residency in West Niagara during the past few years where their leadership in Rotary was notable and much appreciated. The Fisks extend an invitation to visit them in their new home and promise to drop by to see us when they’re visiting in this area. The Club is a great group of people doing great things. Keep up the good work.” John & Martha K - Happy Birthday to Jeremy, their eldest, on his 40th this month John M - that his backyard project (pool & landscaping) is finally completed just in time for Sue & John to take off for their two-week vacation in Sicily Barb - for the great response to the invitation to Lincoln Rotary’s AGM & Holiday Social on December 5 Sue - to be heading to the cottage by herself to get the wood stove on for workers to install new flooring Paul - to have figured out the tire pressure gauge device on his new EV Joanne - for a most enjoyable time at The 2023 Hope Gala, Pathstone’s major annual fundraiser, featuring guest speaker, Howie Mandel; also for Rotary Youth Exchange applications received from two very promising candidates who will be interviewed shortly by Grimsby & Lincoln Rotary representatives. 50/50 DRAW Once again, President Joanne had the winning ticket but pulled the KING instead of the ACE of spades. BRIEF CLUB ASSEMBLY Re: Approval of Rotary Club of Lincoln Financial Statements With a quorum (14 members in attendance + 3 proxies), the assembly proceeded. Club Treasurer John Maynard presented the Rotary Club of Lincoln & Rotary Club of Lincoln Foundation Inc. Combined Financial Statements, June 30, 2023, which had been circulated in advance via email to all club members. The statements were prepared by John Maynard based on the records maintained by Debbie Klassen, Club Treasurer, and Margaret Andrewes, Foundation Treasurer, for the year ended June 30, 2023 Under the Ontario Not-For-Profit Corporations Act (2010) the members must consent if we do not have an audit or formal review engagement of the financial statements. Based on the Finance Committee and Board reviews, the Board of Directors of the Club and the Foundation do not feel a formal review is required and recommends the approval of the motion below. MOTION: That the combined financial statements of the Rotary Club of Lincoln and the Rotary Club of Lincoln Foundation Inc. for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023 are hereby approved; And, the financial statements for the Rotary Club of Lincoln Foundation Inc. for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023 be approved; And, the requirement to have a review engagement or audit done of the financial statements be waived.
