As Acting Director for the Niagara Refugee Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP), Anna is our contact for Lincoln Rotary’s 2022-23 Collaborative District Grant Project #225C1, which resulted in the delivery of SIX LAPTOP COMPUTERS by Kirk Fielding, the selected vendor, on November 8, 2022, to Anna & her team at NFAMC. The laptops were loaded with the required software for distribution by NFAMC to newly arrived refugee families from Afghanistan. Anna will update us on the Niagara Afghan RAP with details about the distribution of the laptops.

Count yourself in for COLDEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR (CNOY) 2023 WEST NIAGARA
A most delicious continental breakfast was enjoyed by everyone as they arrived at the meeting.
President Brenda Kell-Kotwa called the meeting to order at 7:30am & with HAPPY NEW YEAR wishes, she greeted 18 Lincoln Rotarians and two very special visiting Rotarians - District 7090 Governor Lisa Bishop (RC Delhi) & Immediate Past Governor Anne Bermingham (RC Hamilton AM). She also extended a warm welcome to Lionel Ulrich, Governor Lisa's partner & chauffeur, & Jordan Klassen, visiting with his Mom Debbie.
Martha Kralt offered the invocation featuring a blessing for the New Year followed by a toast to Rotary, our Town, & Everyone. For her Point of Pride, Gayle Lucas-Roth read aloud a paragraph from the Christmas newsletter, which she & Paul included with their 2022 holiday greetings for family and friends. In the paragraph, they highlighted some of the Rotary activities in which they had been involved and demonstrated how "Rotarians really do make a difference in people's lives".
50/50 Draw - Anne Bermingham had the winning ticket. However, she pulled the 8 of spades & missed out on the jackpot, which is minimal because Rotarian Maria Derkacz was successful in pulling the ace of spades in December 2022. As the most recent winner of the jackpot, Maria was presented with her winnings by Club Treasurer Debbie Klassen.
Happy Bucks were offered by all with many good wishes for the New Year and sharing of stories of holiday celebrations & activities with family, friends & pets. Barb Mitges did admit that she was happy Christmas was over & life is getting back to normal. Martha & John Kralt are looking forward to their train trip to British Columbia while Maria Derkacz is heading to Florida for an extended vacation. Phil Goodwin announced that his daughter delivered her 2nd son on her birthday just before Christmas. David Wood & Bill Wiley were happy with their experience at the Dr. Davey School Holiday Breakfast and commended Joanne Serkeyn on her leadership for such an impactful project. Paul Roth expressed his pleasure for the continental breakfast complete with Henry Klassen's homemade dill pickles. Jordan Klassen was happy that his son is back in school. Terry Kotwa is looking forward to 2023 and the prospect of the Buffalo Bills playing in the SuperBowl.

Led by WNSS Grade 12 students, Lindsey Accadia & Tiana Sherback, an information session is scheduled at the Grimsby campus on January 11. Rotarians Joanne Serkeyn, Sue Foster, Bill Wiley & Margaret Andrewes will be attending to meet with students and lend their support.
District 7090 Rotary Youth Exchange Interviews
Candidate interviews are scheduled to take place in Buffalo on Saturday, January 14. Joanne Serkeyn & Sue Foster will be participating as members of the team responsible for conducting interviews with short term exchange candidates.

Lisa Bishop, 2022-23 Governor, Rotary District 7090
Born and raised in Oshawa, ON, Lisa graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1981 & later obtained certifications in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, etc. Her 32-year career included both Inpatient Nurse & Community Mental Health Clinician with the final 5 years as Executive Director of Community Addiction & Mental Health Services of Haldimand & Norfolk.
She has served on the boards of healthcare organizations for which she has received high recognition from her peers. She holds a Private Pilot License and is actively involved in leadership roles with The Ninety-Nines, Inc. (International Organization of Women Pilots), Brantford Flying Club & numerous other aviation organizations.
Lisa became a Rotarian in 2009 after she was invited to join “The Small But Mighty”, Rotary Club of Delhi. She served as club secretary for 2 years, and 3 years as President. In 2016, she took the Port Dover, ON, New Year’s Day Polar Bear Dip that raised over $7,000 (base funds) for End Polio Now. She has enjoyed serving as Assistant Governor for Area #1 clubs (initiated Norfolk Rotary Day of Action), Director of Service Projects, Co-Chair District Conference 2018 & 2020, and RLI Trained Facilitator.
She is a member of the Rotary Fellowship, International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians. Her other interests include the family cottage, golf, snorkeling, scuba diving, traveling, volunteering at, and attending airshows and sharing humour. She is engaged to Lionel Ulrich, Police Inspector (retired), and he is a very supportive “Friend of Rotary”. They are most thankful to have met and joined their lives together after both being widowed.
Lisa is a Paul Harris Fellow, Member of The Paul Harris Society, The Bequest Society, and Major Donor.

Lisa spoke of her pleasure in serving as District Governor under the leadership of Rotary International’s First Woman President, Jennifer Jones. Her message focused on President Jones' chosen theme for this Rotary year, "Imagine Rotary" and its unique logo designed by an Australian Indigenous artist.

Governor Lisa congratulated Lincoln Rotary on its 25th anniversary and strong record of service locally & internationally. She also recognized the contributions of individual RCL members who have provided leadership at the District level over many years.
Anne Bermingham, 2021-22 Governor, Rotary District 7090
Born & raised in Hamilton ON, Anne attended the University of Western Ontario & University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a Master's Degree in Applied Social Psychology. She has had a lifelong career of consulting to businesses about issues related to leadership, performance & change. She is currently active with her firm 2WA Consulting - https://www.2waconsulting.com/
Anne joined the Rotary Club of Hamilton in 1992 & has served in many Club & District leadership roles since then. Most recently, she completed 2 years as Club President of Hamilton AM Rotary. Her role in Club Leadership Training & Rotary Leadership Institute is particularly noteworthy. She has also facilitated District 7090 strategic planning over several years and helped many clubs with their visioning process.
In her personal life, Anne is a busy volunteer – active not only in Rotary but also Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Halton and Hamilton. She is also involved in the LPGA Amateurs Board of Directors for her local chapter. The other hats that she wears with pride are that of being a wife to Gabriel Sedran and mother of two young men - Carmichael and Alistair.

Anne explained the significance of the Rotary District 7090 LIGHTHOUSE AWARD...
Each year, Rotary International establishes 25 goals for individual clubs to work towards. To achieve a RI CITATION, a club must complete 13 of the 25 goals. Of 67 clubs in District 7090, 25 achieved the 2021-22 Citation.
To qualify for the LIGHTHOUSE AWARD a club must achieve the RI Citation + additional goals as set out by District 7090. In 2021-22, these included engaging in service projects, securing a strong social media presence, demonstrating strong leadership in club organization, etc.
In presenting the Lighthouse Award, Anne congratulated Lincoln Rotary on shining as a beacon.
The award citation reads...
"In recognition of outstanding performance in serving your community, international service, youth services, supporting The Rotary Foundation, and being a vibrant club."
President Brenda received the award by expressing gratitude to Anne and all Lincoln Rotarians. "This recognition would not be possible without the involvement & support of each & every club member."
