Rotary District 7090 Governor David Alexander

In introducing Governor Dave, President Joanne highlighted his many roles in Rotary to date and her appreciation for his innovative leadership at the District 7090 helm. Click here for details.
Dave began by explaining that he wished to share his “Reflections as District Governor”. He pointed out that he wears his Rotary Club of Welland membership badge because he considers that his service as a club member comes first and as Governor, he is serving all clubs across District 7090. He is happiest when he can meet fellow Rotarians one-on-one.
In a conversational style, Dave covered a wide range of topics starting with accolades for the Rotary Club of Lincoln - our many highly successful service projects over the years & far reaching approach to actively involving community members and communicating news about our activities. He also commended club members who have & continue to contribute substantially in leadership positions at the District level. Of special note are Joanne who is District Governor Nominee and Sue, currently Assistant Governor & incoming Grant Spending Chair.
His reflections continued as follows…
Best practices on archiving Rotary records - a special interest of Dave’s as he believes in celebrating who we are and what we’ve built. As an example, he cited the hundreds of folks who are Paul Harris Recognition honorees & suggested that it is important to have a solid archive of their stories & contributions as Rotarians and community members.
Participation at RI International Conventions - an incredible opportunity to learn who we are as people and one that every Rotarian should try to experience at least once. He noted the “House of Friendship” where the world comes together in one space, as a significant component of every convention.
Importance of local community organizations - fundamental to the wellbeing of every community. He referred to the movie “Join or Die” (https://www.joinordiefilm.com/) as a wonderful opportunity to bring local organizations together for a public screening and follow-up panel discussion for enabling a more cohesive and engaged community.
End Polio Now - a Rotary International initiative that has served to build an international healthcare infrastructure. The ripple effect has extended far beyond its initial focus to end polio.
Peacebuilding - incorporating Rotary's work in Peacebuilder Actions in projects, conversations, habits, and expectations. Enabling pathways for District 7090’s designation as a “Peace District” is also on Dave’s agenda. He’s excited about RCL’s initiative to install a permanent peace pole in Lincoln.
Dave ended by noting that “every Rotary club is different”, which makes for a very rich mosaic for ‘making a difference in the world’. Recognizing our differences while counting our collective accomplishments is to be celebrated always.
Joanne extended a hearty thank you to DG Dave who continued the practice of meeting with the Board of Directors immediately following the club meeting.
