& enduring presence of Indigenous peoples, with a particular focus on the Neutral Nation.
This important new public space in the Town of Lincoln features naturalized landscapes, interpretive installations,
& public art that provide a place for reflection, education, & gathering.

With 16 Lincoln Rotarians in attendance, President John Kralt called the meeting to order. Pod #1 member, Terry Kotwa opened with the LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT followed by a collection of inspiring THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY sourced from ChatGPT. He followed with a TOAST to Lincoln Rotary and District 7090 leaders and Canada.
 
Joanne Serkeyn’s POINT OF PRIDE featured Lincoln Rotary’s two District 7090 awards received during her 2023-24 year as Club President:
 
Lighthouse Award for achievements related to RI & District 7090 goals 2023-2024
 
Rick Sterne Governor’s Trophy for outstanding engagement and impact
 
Just back from RI Zone training session in Winnipeg, Jo felt honoured to be a participant and bring back ideas to implement in our club. She reported that there is now a Rotary Peace Pole installed in Winnipeg.
 
She was pleased to distribute re-designed Rotary District 7090 Best of Friends pins to RCL members. Our cross border District was established in 1912 - just 7 years after Rotary International was launched in Chicago in 1905.

David G - nothing went wrong this week
Jennifer - working hard on Lamplighter having a first draft meeting 
Nancy - a great 10 day trip with Steven out west to visit son and family. Banff, Jasper and in between. Nancy grandaughter claimed her berry picking patch while Nancy kept lookout for bears and cougars. Upon arriving home Nancy attended the IPM & raved about the 120 ft Quilt of Belonging on display.
Rob - also the IPM where he had a chance meeting with a student of his grandfather who was the principal of Kenilworth School in Hamilton.
John M - in appreciation for the club’s support on the passing of his mother, Connie Maynard.
Phil - Go Jays.
Terry - Go Bills + 3 days of Golf
Brenda - joined Ali and Nathan on a trip to Ottawa and a surprise 80th birthday for her sister - beautiful drive with blue skies and coloured leaves
Sue - bartending at IPM over 3 days; volunteering at the CCWN food drive
Maria - beautiful experience attending the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Awards Gala with President John  
Joanne - singing with the Police Memorial Choir in Canada & the US & participation in an upcoming bike ride
Barb - Downton Abbey floral exhibit at the Royal Botanical Gardens topped off with seeing the Downton Abbey the Grand Finale movie
Jennifer - amazed as she was in the audience at the movie theatre too…coincidentally sitting in the row behind. Then Barb and George enjoyed pizza at restaurant Industria where Jennifer was as well! Neither saw each other!

David Grabb started the meeting with the LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT & then offered his THOUGHT FOR THE DAY...
Vernah Fleming spoke about trees for her POINT OF PRIDE...
Rotary has had a long history of tree planting. There have been trees planted on 5 continents. In 2018 1.2 million trees were planted. In Guelph 14 years ago, 60,000 trees were planted, it is now a walking trail. On Nov.1 we will be planting 75 trees at Ashby Park and 20 oak will be planted at Konkle Creek. ALL ARE INVITED TO JOIN IN!
 
Nancy Neville reported 17 Lincoln Rotarians in attendance. John Maynard called the the 50/50 draw without a winner. 
 
HAPPY BUCKS
John K - thankful and mentioned better health for Margaret and John Ripley and the loss of John Vanderbeek. 
David G - 13 bucks today...played golf at Twenty Valley; has a perforated ear drum - ouch! Sadly his sister has passed but thankfully, David had a positive conversation before she died.
Bob - wished Terry a great bike ride in Spain; Brenda is there as well.
Joanne - time with her parents, her Dad still cycles at 85.
Dale - Thanksgiving with family.
Rob & Sue - great weekend at the cottage with Kate and Liz. Rob cooked on his Dads "big easy" cooker. They are building a new deck.

  • Presenter: John Maynard
    John reviewed the financial statements and informed the club that David Grabb has joined the Finance Committee. He will assist in making financial recommendations.

That the Finance Committee be approved to review financial statements and forgo costly audits.

3. Project & Committee Updates
Sunset Music Series
  • Presenter: John Maynard
    John has led the Sunset Music Series for 6 years and is looking for club members to take over its management.
Lamplighter Project
  • Presenter: Jennifer Toews
    • Planning is progressing well.
    • Met on October 1 with new WNSS principal, Janice Sargent.
    • This year’s theme: “Traveling Through Time.”
    • New equipment will project sets, reducing the need for physical set design.
    • Draft read-through has taken place.
    • WNSS drama teacher is assisting with writing.
    • Auditions start in January.
    • Production dates: May 8, 9, 10
    • Ticket sales to begin after March Break or early April.
Environmental Initiative – T-Shirts
  • Presenter: Sue Foster
    • Green Rotary environmental shirts available for $15 each.
    • Goal is to have shirts ready by November 1 for the Asby Park Tree Planting.
Cluster Grant Presentation
  • Takes place on October 20.
  • 18 clubs are participating.
  • If successful, the club will receive $18,000 from the other clubs and $18,000 from the grant.
  • The project supports efforts to eliminate preventable maternal and child mortality in Guatemala.
Polio Awareness
  • Presenter: John Kralt
    • Polio Flag Ceremony: October 24 at 10:00 AM. Rotarians encouraged to attend.
    • Reminder to consider Paul Harris Fellow nominations — one is planned for the New Year.
    • A hospital tour is scheduled for October 22 or 23; one more Rotary member can join.
Peace Pole Project
  • Presenter: David Grabb
    • Pole dimensions: 6x6, 12-foot cedar.
    • Professionally engraved.
    • First pole to be installed by the Town of Lincoln.
    • A second pole is planned for Jordan Hollow Park.
    • Cost: $800 + tax per pole.
Speaker Scheduling
  • Presenter: Maria Derkacz
    • Interested in organizing engaging speakers for future club meetings.
    • Members are encouraged to reach out with ideas or suggestions.
