Rotary Club of Lincoln Meeting IN-PERSON

President Brenda opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to the club’s first in-person meeting since September 22, 2021. Special thanks to Tim Hortons (Serena Drive, Beamsville) for the complimentary coffee and muffins enjoyed by all.
Giving thanks and helping others was the theme that Martha Kralt featured in her invocation…“Even little things are important.” In her Point of Pride, Anna Murre commented, “During the past year of pandemic restrictions Lincoln Rotary has bolted on in spite of all…WELL DONE!”
Registrar Barb Mitges reported the attendance of 20 Lincoln Rotarians + 2 special guests, David Duffus & Krystyn Keir, representing Cave Springs Camp.

Lincoln Chamber of Commerce 2021 NON-PROFIT SHOWCASE AWARD celebrating service organizations that support, build, and improve the quality of life in our community presented at the Chamber’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards Gala in September.
YWCA Niagara Region 2021 COMMUNITY PARTNER AWARD for demonstrating the goals of the YW through social responsibility and advocating for individuals in Niagara who struggle with poverty and homelessness presented at the YW’s AGM in November.
Trillium Grant Opportunity
Maria Derkacz has generously volunteered to assist the RCL Board of Directors in investigating & possibly applying for a grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

CAVE SPRINGS RETREAT & CONFERENCE CENTRE UPDATE
As a member of the Cave Springs Camp Board of Directors, Rotarian David Wood shared brief highlights of developments at the camp. Legacy Hall is now open for business as a year-round retreat and conference centre. He noted that the new AV system, recently installed by RCL in Rotary Hall, is a much appreciated amenity in the new facility. The temporary Rotary Hall sign, which hangs over the entrance of the main gathering room in Legacy Hall, will be replaced by a permanent 4’x 8’ sign in the near future. In Summer 2021, some 410 children attended camp. Several capital improvements, including new roofs on cabins, have been underway this fall. With COVID protocols in place during the past eighteen months, activities have otherwise been very quiet.
David then introduced Krystyn Keir, Cave Springs Venue Planner, and soon to be Executive Director. Krystyn expressed her thanks for RCL’s extraordinary support for Cave Springs and how excited she is with our club’s plan to hold its regular in-person meetings at the facility. She asked us to join her and the Board of Directors in getting the word out that Cave Springs is beautiful and ready for use every day!

RCL's DISTRICT GRANT PROJECTS PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
Focusing on The Rotary Foundation (TRF) theme for November for the remainder of the meeting, Rob Foster and Margaret Andrewes presented a brief overview of how funds are generated for District & Global Grant Projects from donations to The Rotary Foundation ANNUAL SHARE FUND. To build this fund, each club member is encouraged to participate in the EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR program by making an annual donation of at least $25 USD to The Rotary Foundation - https://my.rotary.org/en/donate
Their presentation also highlighted a retrospective on the many projects that RCL has completed in recent years with the support of TRF District & Global Grants. They used a PowerPoint presentation displayed beautifully on the BIG SCREEN Smart TV, which along with a portable sound system was made possible by a District Project Grant 2021-22.
It was noted that the total value of all District Grant Projects, successfully completed by Lincoln Rotary between 2016 and 2021 is almost $26,000 CAD of which approximately 50% was covered by District Grants. RCL’s Global Grant Project in Guatemala, valued at $84,500 USD, required an investment of just $1,500 USD by our club.

As the meeting wrapped up, Martha Kralt, RCL lead for the Cave Springs AV Project, presented David Duffus, President, Cave Springs Camp Board of Directors, with a plaque to recognize the participation and support of Cave Springs Camp, Rotary Club of Lincoln, and The Rotary Foundation for this project.
And, Barb Mitges offered hearty CONGRATULATIONS to Rotarian Laura Corder who was recognized by the Town of Lincoln with a 2021 GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD…
The Heritage Gift Shop is a fundraising enterprise of the Volunteer Association of the Jordan Historical Museum of the Twenty. We rely solely on dedicated volunteers to sustain the operation. This year we would like to honour Laura Corder. While relatively new to us (within the last 5 years), Laura has already proved her willingness to help whenever and however needed, including being the emcee for a fundraising dinner in 2019. Apart from working regularly scheduled shifts she can also be relied upon to fill in as needed. In the difficult circumstances of business operation in 2020-2021, Laura is one of a reduced number of volunteers through whose efforts we have been able to maintain a certain level of operation as we persevere in working toward our mandate and goals.
