CLUB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS January 14, 2025 Fleming Centre, Beamsville President Joanne Serkeyn welcomed 15 Lincoln Rotarians + Visiting Rotarian Melanie Davis with warm HAPPY NEW YEAR wishes. Sue Foster introduced Melanie who is in the process of transferring her membership from the Rotary Club of St Catharines to the Rotary Club of Lincoln. Joanne offered the land acknowledgment. Mat Miller led the opening exercises... He began with his REFLECTION on BLESSINGS in our lives, which he explained have been top of mind for his family following the loss of his father who passed just before Christmas. Mat invited a TOAST to the new year & Rotary. Jennifer Toews shared her POINT of PRIDE... In acknowledging how she marvelled at the longevity of service of outstanding community volunteers like John van der Beek, she expressed her pride in John's most accomplishment at 89 years of age with the recent publication of his novel, Klompen & Blisters. Brenda won the draw but pulled the 10 clubs rather than the ace of spades :( HAPPY BUCKS Many happy bucks were offered in tribute to John van der Beek and the publication of his monumental 800+ page novel. Others included... Terry - for "The Bills" & the newly formed Lamplighter Production Team (update coming soon); Unhappy about the Trump Tariff Challenge on the horizon Jenn - for how well the play, which she is directing for Peninsula Players, is coming together - i.e. rehearsals & sets Sue - excited to be welcoming two new Lincoln Rotarians - David Grabb & Melanie Davis with three prospects in the wings Brenda - acknowledging her "zookeeper" role as caregiver for Debbie's dog and her son's diabetic cat Maria - for living in Canada Phil - for his bees and the honey they produce Rob - reflecting on the Shiraz Daya's funeral attended by several Lincoln Rotarians and the affective prayer of one of the officiants requesting forgiveness of anyone who was wronged by Shiraz Mat - for his sister visiting from her home in Sweden & daughter home for the holidays from university in Ottawa Joanne - for everyone's help with the Dr. Davey Holiday Breakfast and the happiness of the youngsters who attended and each received a hat and mitts in celebration of the event's 20th anniversary |
