YOUTH SERVICE - Joanne SerkeynWest Niagara Interact Club is soon to be certified by Rotary International. Rotary Clubs of Grimsby & Lincoln are co-sponsors. The required paperwork for submission to RI was signed by Jeanette Murphy, RC Grimsby President & Brenda Kell-Kotwa, RC Lincoln on Monday, June 12.
Four West Niagara Secondary School graduating students will be honoured as Rotary Medalists at WNSS commencement on June 27. Each will receive $750 - equally funded by Grimsby & Lincoln Rotary Clubs.
District 7090 Rotary Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $1500 USD has been awarded to Tiana Sherback, who was sponsored by Lincoln Rotary. Tiana was selected from a field of 22 students who applied for this scholarship in 2023.
Lindsey Accadia, selected for Short Term Rotary Youth Exchange, will be spending 3 weeks this July with her host family in Germany. On August 3, she will return with Louisa who will spend the next three weeks with Lindsey & her family at their home in Beamsville. Lincoln Rotarians are requested to assist Lindsey and her family with ideas for giving Louisa the best Canadian experience possible.
Bridget Olds, Jr RYLA 2023 participant, has notified that she is interested in applying for Short Term Youth Exchange.
Police Vulnerable Sector Check - Information will be coming soon from Brenda & Joanne regarding the procedure for club members to secure their PVSC. Sunset Music Series 2023 - Promotional materials will be ready for distribution early next week. Lincoln Rotarians & friends & family are asked to sign up as volunteers for all four Tuesday evenings in July. Lamplighter Tour 2023 - Staging is in Jordan Village October 12-15 with the premier performance scheduled on October 3 at Providence Church, Beamsville. Urgent appeal has been issued for adult actors for the 2023 production + key leaders to serve at the Lamplighter helm following its 20th anniversary production this fall. Tickets go on sale August 1.
In addition to a 50/50 draw for which tickets will be sold during the tour, a team headed by Dave Fisk, is soliciting Lamplighter Tour sponsorships. To date, approximately $2K has been raised. The target is $10K. Should you have ideas for potential sponsors, please contact Dave - dfisk@rogers.com
Environmental Committee - 2023 speaker’s series was a resounding success. Another series is scheduled - one in Fall 2023; four in Spring 2024. It’s anticipated that the committee will host &/or cooperate in tree planting projects in the local area in September/October 2024.
FUNDRAISING + FOUNDATION - Rob Foster
Beer for a Year Fundraiser - Ticket sales are progressing. Big push will come over the next two months with the draw scheduled for Saturday, August 26 during Bike the Benchlands proceedings.
Bike the Benchlands - 80% of $30,500 sponsorships goal has been achieved. Expenses are well under control. Check Schedule 2 of RCL’s 2023-24 budget for a rundown of revenue and expenses for this event. Click here to go to the Bike the Benchlands website for details.
Community Assessment - is on hold until August. Once back on the club’s regular meeting schedule, members will be provided with clear guidelines for participation in the implementation process, which should be completed by early October.
Annual Donations to Local Youth Charities - Until data from the community assessment is available, distribution of $5K designated in RCL’s 2022-23 budget will be based on the breakdown from past years. Before the end of June, donations will be made as follows…Convos Youth Zone, Pathstone Foundation, The FORT & Village of Hope -- $1000 each; Big Brothers Big Sisters Niagara & Upper Deck Youth Centre -- $500 each.
2023-24 District Grant - All approvals are in place for RCL to proceed with its project to equip Niagara Christian Gleaners (NCG) with a powered pallet truck required for raising pallets of food (approx. 1500 lbs each) to a storage area to be located on a second floor mezzanine in the 5,000 square foot expansion to NCG’s current facility. Construction of the building has begun. The pallet truck has been ordered for delivery once the expansion is completed.
President Brenda adjourned the meeting as all participated in reciting the 4-Way Test.
