CLUB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
September 10, 2024
Fleming Centre, Beamsville
With 14 Lincoln Rotarians in attendance, President Joanne Serkeyn called the meeting to order. She extended a warm welcome to Rotarian Mat Miller, recently transferred from the Rotary Club of Grimsby, and Rotary Youth Exchange inbound student Coco Chen, who arrived from Taiwan on September 6.
Pod #1 member Bob Groh offered the land acknowledgment followed by his Thought for the Day reflecting on our club's substantial accomplishments and resilience in reference to a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote: "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters in comparison to what lies within us." Bob proposed a toast to the King, our great country & our club
For her Point of Pride, Lindsay Dressel shared a story about her recent discovery while hiking in Haliburton. Along the trails were stone & log benches installed by the Haliburton Hills Land Trust with funds from the Rotary Club of Haliburton. The benches have been located in 8 spots to encourage hikers to sit for a while and contemplate the beauty of the landscape. Indeed, Lindsay did just that while taking pride in experiencing one more great example of Rotary "doing good in the world".

John K - for his explorations this summer driving a RCV from home to Yellowknife & Vancouver, which he & Martha enjoyed very much and reinforced how blessed he feels to be living in Canada
Bob - happy & thankful for a most enjoyable Bike the Benchlands ride and his team's support raising $2,000 for Kristin French Child Advocacy Centre
Lindsay - to be working in a new position as event planner in the Township of West Lincoln...CONGRATULATIONS Lindsay!!!
Maria - to have made it to the meeting on time in spite of delays with the unexpected construction on Ontario Street this morning
Margaret - for the resounding success of both the Sunset Music Series (SMS) and Bike the Benchlands this summer with huge thanks to John M & Lindsay for their SMS leadership and Joanne & team for leading the way with BTB
Joanne - also for the success of SMS and BTB + for her son, Chase, as he begins his 2nd year in Honours Science at University of Guelph and her daughter Skye's success working in her field in Georgetown.

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Martha Kralt provided a brief update on the three students who have begun their 2024-25 RYE adventure with the support of the Rotary Clubs of Lincoln and Grimsby...
Bridget Olds arrived in FRANCE on August 26, 2024
She is living in Anglet and attending Lycee Rene Cassin in Bayonne.

their 4 children Clemence, Élise, Solène & Etienne & dog Eden.
Bewolf Toms arrived in JAPAN on August 24, 2024
Wolf is living in the Toyama prefecture in Uozu City with his host family
father, Tsuyoshi, mother, Miwako, sis, Mashiro & bro, Uryuu.
Here is Wolf with his hair cut and in uniform already for school,
Toyama University of International Studies - a 1.5 hour bike, train & bus ride away from home.

Handmade Market 2025 Proposal
Once again, Lincoln Rotary has been offered $5000 to manage onsite parking at the Handmade Market, scheduled on the weekends of May 30-31, 2025 and June 6-7, 2025 at 13th Street Winery. In response to this offer, John Kralt briefed members on a proposal that he and Rob Foster have developed. The plan has John & Martha Kralt responsible for the recruitment, scheduling & oversight of the project for one weekend and Rob & Sue Foster with the same responsibilities for the 2nd weekend. He explained that the plan requires the full cooperation and participation of all Lincoln Rotarians in that 3-hour timeslots will be assigned and if a member is unable to fulfill their assignment then they are responsible for finding another adult to replace them. John assured that assignments would be coming well in advance of the event.
With this proposal, John requested a show of hands to indicate support. Everyone present raised their hand in support.
