CLUB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS - February 14, 2023
Rotary Hall, Cave Springs Camp
Upon registration, attendees enjoyed Tim Horton’s coffee, tea & muffins set out on a festive table with other treats & decorated for Valentine’s Day thanks to Sue Foster.
President Brenda Kell-Kotwa called the meeting to order at 7:30am & welcomed 15 Lincoln Rotarians. John Kralt's invocation featured a tribute to Canada as a result of his recent trip to British Columbia by rail. He shared the 2nd & 4th verses of O Canada…
O Canada! Where pines and maples grow.
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Though land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!
Ruler Supreme, who hearest humble prayer,

John's toast was to “ladies”, who are “as beautiful as this country”… Oh, John!
For his Point of Pride, Dave Fisk spoke of the great work of RCL’s Environmental Committee with its Speaker’s Series & Great Lake Watershed Clean Up.
50/50 Draw - Margaret Andrewes had the winning ticket but did not pull the ace of spades. However, she took the opportunity to thank all who purchased chocolate hearts in support of District 7090’s Gift of Life Foundation fundraiser. She presented Martha K, whose birthday is coming up soon, with a chocolate heart generously purchased and donated by Anna M.
Happy Bucks were plentiful with several for this month’s sunnier & longer days along with a couple ‘not so happy’ ones for the outcome of Super Bowl 2023. Dave F was happy to announce his retirement AGAIN. Anna M. had a fun “Galentine Weekend” away with good friends in Collingwood. David W celebrated his eldest granddaughter’s 17th birthday. Martha K is thankful that her mom’s recent health issues have been eased with a pacemaker. Joanne S is happy that local secondary schools have responded positively to her recent outreach for RYLA applicants. Margaret A reported that she & Phil had just returned from a splendid 9-day getaway in British Columbia. Paul Roth expressed his happiness for Rotary International’s response to the disastrous Turkey Syria Earthquake & urged the support of fellow Lincoln Rotarians - https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-responds-earthquake-has-devastated-areas-turkey-and-syria
And, Gayle L-R shared her extraordinary happiness for a family gathering where she was joyfully introduced to & reunited with her nephew who was given up for adoption by her sister when he was born 41 years ago.

MEMBERSHIP - Sue Foster
3-4 individuals have indicated their interest in joining Rotary; Plans for introducing them for RCL membership are in process
PUBLIC RELATIONS - Sue Foster
Bookmarks with QR codes to promote Lincoln Rotary are being distributed to Speaker’s Series attendees; Sue is now an administrator for District 7090 website and other social media platforms
ROTARY FOUNDATION - Rob Foster
Community Needs Assessment process is set to launch shortly for the purpose of enabling RCL to make informed decisions for targeting its support - goods, services, funding, in direct response to community needs.
FUNDRAISING - Rob Foster
RCL’s Nine, Wine & Dine Golf Tournament is being replaced with “Tour de Benchlands” & “Beer for a Year” (soon to be revealed), as two new fundraisers in 2023-24.
SERVICE PROJECTS - Dave Fisk
Congratulations & many thanks are extended to Rob F & other Lincoln Rotarians (e.g. Cathy M, Debbie K, etc.) who have provided outstanding leadership for RCL’s golf tournament fundraisers over the years.
Sunset Music Series - John Maynard is taking the lead for organizing the concerts to be staged at Charles Daley Park over four Tuesday evenings in July 2023. The ‘Call for Performers’ has been issued with the support of the Town of Lincoln (Lori Laird). Sandy Vine has once again graciously agreed to assist with the performers’ recruitment & selection process.
Youth Services Committee - With Joanne Serkeyn at the helm, the committee is actively involved in the development of the West Niagara Secondary School Interact Club; recruitment & selection of RYLA 2023 candidates; firming up arrangements for Lindsey Accadia’s Short Term Youth Exchange this summer; etc. Joanne is also serving on the District 7090 RYLA & Youth Exchange Committees.
Environmental Committee - First two speaker’s series sessions were well-attended & very successful; Planning for Great Lakes Watershed Clean Up in conjunction with Earth Day 2023 is being coordinated with Benchlands BIA in Lincoln, Rotary Club of Grimsby, local schools, etc.
Lamplighter Tour - Organization of Production Team under the leadership of Martha Kralt is underway with a call for volunteers - Rotary & community members, to serve on the team.
FINANCE COMMITTEE - Terry Kotwa
Current financial reports, previously forwarded to all RCL members by John Maynard, were reviewed & discussed. Appreciation was extended to Club Treasurer Debbie K & Finance Chair John M for their financial stewardship.
