CLUB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS - August 8, 2023 Fleming Centre, Beamsville Club President Joanne Serkeyn called the meeting to order at 7:30am and welcomed one and all to the first official Rotary Club of Lincoln meeting of the 2023-24 Rotary year. The throng included 14 Lincoln Rotarians + 5 special guests: Jessica Wilson, guest speaker; Lindsey Accadia & Luisa Kramholler; Todd Overholdt; Sonya Siebert. Anna Murre opened with a Land Acknowledgement as a formal statement recognizing the unique and enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories.  Representing POD #1, John Kralt followed by sharing this Ralph Aldo Emerson quote and proposing a toast to the work of Rotary and Canada in which we do our work. For her Point of Pride, POD #1 member Anna Murre highlighted Lincoln Rotary’s many innovative service and fundraising projects - Bike the Benchlands, Beer for a Year, Lamplighter Tour, Sunset Music Series - all of which are relevant to the wellbeing of our local community Andy Fluit held the winning 50/50 ticket but missed pulling the ace of spades. Martha Kralt collected HAPPY BUCKS, which elicited many happy stories… - Lots for the return of in-person club meetings & enjoyable summer vacation getaways near and far

- Joanne for being president of a very vibrant club and in anticipation of the club’s many exciting events coming soon

| A new structure has now been installed at Angelina Prokich Park in Beamsville. It replaces the original little library, which was vandalized & dismantled in 2022. Special thanks to Builders Bob Dobrenski & Doug Ransom, this LLL is back in business. Its users prefer adult fiction and all types of children’s books. |

SHORT TERM ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE - SUMMER 2023 | President Joanne introduced Lindsey Accadia & Luisa Kramholler - Lindsey recently returned from Germany after her exchange with Luisa’s family in July & Luisa now in Canada hosted by Lindsey’s family. Lindsey provided brief highlights of her 3-week exchange trip in July. She landed in Munich. From there, she travelled to Luisa’s family home in Bavaria in south eastern Germany. She expressed appreciation for the Kramholler’s accommodation for her limitation with the German language as they treated her to many wonderful experiences including trips to various destinations in Germany and nearby Austria and the Czech Republic. At every stop along the way, sights, sounds, tastes & more made for a whole lot of fun and happy memories. Luisa explained that she has many interests with music & sports at the top of her list. Like Lindsey, she is very happy for her youth exchange experience. The Accadia family have scheduled a number of experiences for Luisa. However, Rotarians are encouraged to suggest & organize other activities to be included in Luisa’s itinerary before she returns home on August 27. |

| Anna Murre was very pleased to introduce guest speaker Jessica Wilson, Cultural Development Coordinator, Town of Lincoln. Jessica provided a most interesting and inspiring presentation on the evolution of the museum. Since its inception in 1953 on the banks of the Twenty Creek in Jordan Village, the museum has grown exponentially with the support of hundreds of community members who have in the past and continue to uphold the importance of preserving the rich heritage of our town.
