The Rotary Club of Lincoln has committed to sponsoring The SUPER KIDS Classic portion of the 1st. Annual Lincoln Soap Box Derby https://www.facebook.com/groups/CanadianNationalSuperKids/
Super Kids was introduced to Canada in 2008 to open the doors of inclusion for kids and youth with cognitive, developmental and physical challenges. With over 25 years of involvement in the sport of soap box derby racing and seeing many kids captive on the sidelines watching siblings and friends racing, it was felt that Super Kids was the very thing that would open the doors to these awesome kids to the sport. Unlike regular racing, Super Kids racers are not required to build and own their own soap box derby cars. The special two seater cars used in this program are provided by the local organization. Since its introduction to Canada, nearly 20 special needs kids have had the opportunity to represent their communities and Canada in Akron at the World Championships. In 2015 a Canadian Super Kid won the National Super Kids World Championships and a Canadian racer was the 2016 World Champion runner-up. But the bottom line is all of these kids got to proclaim to the world, " LOOK AT ME ! I'M A SOAP BOX DERBY RACER !!! " |
