Speakers for Monday, January 6th, 2014 - Lisa Murray and Molly Ferrill
Lisa Murray and her daughter Molly Ferrill were moved to spend a week doing volunteer work at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota last July, after seeing a powerful presentation about Native Americans at the Monadnock International Film Festival. They will present photos and reflections on their experience at Pine Ridge, the most poverty stricken reservation in our country, situated at the southern edge of the Badlands and home to the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre. During the week, Molly and Lisa did things like build bunk beds and outhouses, and then heard talks in the evenings by members of the Oglala Lakota tribe. The volunteer week served as the beginning of a larger exploration of why so many Native Americans live in third world conditions in the midst of the United States of America, and if there is anything we can do to help.
