On December 3rd, Tim McMahon Jr., Vice President of the Souhegan Valley Rotary Club, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding, using the power of social media in positive ways. Tim is the owner of MCM Social Media and a wrestling coach at Merrimack High School. Tim, his wife, and two kids live in Merrimack, NH. Besides helping clients with their social media, Tim wanted to do more. His goal is to teach children and adults to use the power of social media in positive ways.
Tim wants to bring awareness of the impact smart phones and social media has on mental health. Because social media gives you the power of connectivity it tends to lead to a negative impact. Social media is a tool and most children are not given the resources to use this tool properly or for positive things.

Tim spoke about people of all ages may feel a lack of perceived power when observing glamorized posts of others posting their “best” life on social media causing them to experience anxiety and depression.  Since 2005 76% of teens have had access to social media and during that period the suicide rate has increased 70%. He shared a video expressing a society hyper focused on everyone else and not ourselves. Everyone disconnected and heads down on their phones. There are wonderful things social media can do buy unfortunately we are not teaching our kids how to use it responsibly. Tim’s hope for everyone is to set a good example and lead a path of positive social media usage.

Tim helps educators teach their students to realize their ‘true selves’ through social media. He helps small business owners and nonprofits build a strong social media marketing strategy to create a community of like-minded followers who believe in their mission.
