Highlights: coldest winter in 10 years, first one where all 3 winter months were below normal since 2003. But averages are getting warmer. Windy conditions have been due to the proximity of the Polar Vortex to New England. We experienced the Polar Vortex 11 times. The final collapse of the 2024-25 Polar Vortex has started. This leads to an active pattern of cold weather returning by the end of the month. The snow map shows lots of snow cover in Eastern Canada, our source area for current weather, which causes the air to remain cold. La Nina is in a state of decay with the potential of a growing El Nino.
March will have below normal precipitation. We will have a cool, wet spring with temps below normal. We will transition from cool, damp weather directly to warm summer weather without really having a “Spring”.
