On September 30th, Wendy LeBlanc and Doug Howard, from the Greater Nashua Continuum of Care’s (CoC) , addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding, the Vision of the CoC to build a community where homelessness no longer exists.
CoC provides homeless assistance programs with the goal of ending homelessness. The federal government directs CoC to design a local system to assist sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness. The CoC has a database which tracks the homeless and where they are staying and when. CoC is focusing on the homeless youth between 18-24 years of age. CoC can be reached by calling 211.
In February, they do a search for homeless people which they use to update their databases and help homeless people in the dead of winter.
Chronic Homelessness - is defined as at least 12 months in a 36 month period (with a documented disability) being homeless.
Funding is provided for housing for the homeless by HUD.
Front Door will be getting the Youth Homelessness funding. It is a two-year special award that will allow for providing transitional living, rapid re-housing, host homes and supportive services.
