On August 28th, Chris Johnson is the new General Manager & Advertising Director of The Nashua Telegraph, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding the state of The Nashua Telegraph. Chris Johnson is the new General Manager & Advertising Director of The Nashua Telegraph. A graduate of Framingham State University, Chris lives with his wife of 29 years, and is a father of 3 kids and 2 dogs. Chris started his position at The Telegraph in June 2023.
Prior to taking the job he was VP of Classified Sales for Gannett/USA Today Network for 6 years managing a team of 400 reps covering 375 newspapers nationally. He negotiated and secured new reseller partnerships with ZipRecruiter, Homes.com, Legacy.com, and Koto Homes among others.
For almost 16 years Chris was VP of Sale/General Manager, Media Alliances Monster Worldwide where he managed a sales team of 12 Sales Managers, 9 Sales Reps, and 2 Sales Directors who worked directly with over 2,200 sale reps and 1100 newspaper partners nationwide.
During Chris’s presentation he showed a motivating video about ‘What’ we do in life, but more importantly ‘Why’ we do things and how it changes our outlook once you know the ‘Why’. ‘What’ The Telegraph does is produce a weekly print product, produce a daily website, subscriptions, advertising, etc. The ‘Why’ they do those things is much more impactful such as the importance of visibility of local news, telling people’s stories, obituaries, transparency on public notices, a voice for the community, events in the community, local sports.
Chris’s main goal since starting his job so far has been ‘Blocking and Tackling’ internally and fixing problems. From the phone lines to receiving content, to saying Thank You to subscribers. Working on better content is a priority also.
Chris answered questions from Rotarians with one question being ‘What are the odds of The Telegraph going back to a daily print?’ Very slim he says.
