MERRIMACK - On September 11, 2014, the Rotary Club of Merrimack presented a check for over one hundred dollars to the Merrimack Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2904 Heating Fuel Assistance Fund.

Marge Chiafery, President of the Merrimack Rotary, along with Rotarian Chris Christensen presented the check to Paul Kelly Treasurer of The International Association of Firefighters Local 2904.   The funds were raised through a fire engine ride raffle at the Fourth of July Family Fun Day. See www.Merrimack 4th.com for more information about the Family Fund Day.  For some years, the Merrimack Firefighters have been solid sponsors of the festivities which are managed by Merrimack Rotary.  The Merrimack Rotary coordinated the online raffle and fire engine ride on the Merrimack 4th.com website with Fire Rescue Department Chief Michael Currier.

"The Rotary is so proud to be able to assist Merrimack residents with heating fuel this winter," said Marge Chiafery, President of Rotary Club of Merrimack. "We want to especially thank both the Merrimack Fire Department and the members of Local 2904 for all they did to help with our fire engine ride raffle, and the Family Fun Day as well as those who bought tickets to assist charity."

The Merrimack July 4th Family Fun Day is a major focus for the club, and is our largest annual event.  Founded in 1971, the Rotary Club of Merrimack is a volunteer organization of business people and professionals supporting both local and international communities. Fundraisers such as the upcoming Turkey Trot 5K (www.merrimack5k.com) and Christmas Tree sales support ongoing programs such as the High School Four Way Speech Contest awards, scholarships and the Excellence in the Workplace recognition program aimed at local businesses. Rotary has also provided funds and manpower for Habitat for Humanity, the Roger Duhamel Pavilion at Watson Park, Twin Bridge Trail Markers, and reconstruction of Kids' Kove Playground.

The club works with other Rotary Clubs on international projects like eradication of polio, Pure Water for the World, Shelter-Box and hurricane relief in Honduras.  More information about Rotary is available at www.merrimackrotary.org.   The club meets Thursday mornings for a 7:00 am breakfast at the John O'Leary Adult Community Center.  Each meeting features a guest speaker.  If you would like to be a guest speaker or attend a meeting, contact membership chairman Chris Christensen at (603) 424-2542 or email him at Chris@ChristensenNH.com.
