You get the feeling of island fun and recreation when first stepping onto the deck of the "BEAR", a 40 ft motor vessel that carries campers, parents and weeks of clothes, sheets and pillow for 2 weeks away! No phone' home, no video games, just activities on the shores, fields and beaches at the southern tip of Bear Island.
The panorama of surrounding mountain ranges of the Belknap's, Ossipee's, Squam Range and the White's is a setting where our Rotary Club had a camp buffet in the main dining area of the camp and kicked back on the porch to let it settle before completing a circumnavigation of Bear Island.
One of our club members, Ed Touhey, had 18 years of summers at camps like Camp Lawrence. Bet there are some stories there.
Camp Lawrence Director: Charalie Seifert welcomed us at dinner and Matthew Corsetti, Assistant Director gave us a farewell at the dock back to Shep Brown.
We had visitors who joined us, Meg Gulezian, Jan Gulezian, Pat McFarlin, Karen Thorndike, Pete and Sue Ellen, and Rotarian Jim Matthews. Exchange student Emanuel joined us for the evening.
Happy Dollars from all totaled over $800.00 that went toward matching $ for camp scholarships.
At the BOD meeting the members voted to match Art Clough's gift of $500 to the Sister School of Guatemala, a project that Art and Dell's Florida club have been working with. John Sherman has changed back to Active member. Brownie Schoenbauer has transferred here membership to her Florida club, but will visit us in the summer.
