Announcements

Thank You Notes

Hospitality Committee (Janine Neggers)

  • Four more themed potluck meals planned at the Grange
  • A sign up sheet will go out ahead of each meal so members can choose a dish
  • Dishes should be brought in a container with a serving utensil, not straight from packaging
  • Example given: for a taco bar, bring shredded lettuce already prepped, not still in the bag
  • Thanks given to the team who cooked the dinner that night, despite a few grill challenges

Make A Wish Rafting Event

  • Rotary fielded a team at the Make A Wish rafting fundraiser
  • Attendees included Bruce and Cathy Reichlen, Bruce and Cathy's family and grandchildren, Harry Reichlen (in support), Kevin Kelly (in support), Jack Foster, Dean and Jan Gulezian, Bonnie Ireland, and Ellean Dearborn
  • The Rotary team raised almost $12,000 (reported at $11,900)
  • The full event raised almost $453,000 in one day of rafting
  • Considered a success, with hope for even more participation next year

Happy Dollars

  • Richard Pendergast: happy about the new air conditioning installed at the Grange, noting the club had sweltered through meetings there for years before this
  • Fred Strader: hosted about 50 guests over the weekend for a celebration of life for his mother in law, the event was catered, he spoke highly of the caterer and said he would use them again, and he is happy to have some quiet back in the house
  • Chuck Thorndike: happy that most of his family was in town for five days, though they left a couple of days ago
  • Jim McFarlin: happy the Red Sox matched their all time franchise record of 15 straight wins in the first game of a doubleheader that afternoon, with the second game starting at 7 that night as they went for the record
  • Ellen Dearborn: happy for everything happening this weekend with Make A Wish and the Loon Festival, and one because her sister, brother in law, and niece are visiting, which they do every year
  • Daniel Whitney: happy his duck came in 20th place out of 4,000 entries in the Lions Club rubber duckie race
  • Kevin Kelly: happy about his experience at the Make A Wish rafting event, seeing kids dressed as Cinderella and pirates and families expressing their gratitude, happy about family visiting even though they now camp around New Hampshire instead of staying with him, and he told a story about a his grandson at a baseball camp across the street from his house. Since the field does not allow parents or grandparents to watch games, he considered buying a bear costume to hide in the woods and watch
  • Rick Goodby: happy about the hospitality committee putting together dinner that night
  • Doc: happy about his guest Kathy, a recent trip to Seattle and Vancouver, his nephew and his wife visiting from Vermont with their four teenagers (they have been out on the lake in a pontoon boat), and the work done on the Grange
  • Timothy Bergquist: happy to thank everyone who came out and helped with the Loon Festival

Winner: Kevin Kelly donated winnings to the food pantry.

Adjournment

  • Four Way Test recited
  • Meeting adjourned
