The meeting started promptly at 6pm, with President Betsey leading the Pledge of Allegiance, follows by The Lord’s Prayer

Announcements:

Donna and Teresa reviewed the terrific Senior Christmas Dinner, which despite having less than perfect weather, drew about 230 guests. They thanked everyone who worked so enthusiastically to make the event such a success!

The Program:

Host Heidi Barrett Kitchen’s exchange student, Ferdinand Marek was introduced by his student-mentor, Jim Uber McFarlin.
Our presenter, Ferdinand Marek, hails from Roznova, a town in Slovakia, the home to a population of 20,000.
A very popular tourist and economic center, Roznova is especially noteworthy for its beautiful historic town centre. The central town has a totally preserved medieval town square, complete with a 13th Century Cathedral, a Renaissance tower, and an important Mining Museum. Pope John Paul II visited in 2003.
Boasting both beautiful , mountains and even a Boston Bruins hockey star, the region was first densely populated by miners as early as 1200.
Ferdinand enjoys a rich, full family life with his parents, his older and younger brothers and recently, an exchange student from Brazil. He enjoys skiing in the winter, swimming in the summer and currently, in addition to his studies, he currently plays basketball for Meredith’s Lakers high school squad!
