Program – Dean Phoebe Hope – Outbound for last year
Spent last year in France, Southeast near Italian border in Canne. Landed tired with approximately 20 people to welcome her. Met other exchange students and bonded with them quickly, visited Saint-Tropez. First host was a mom, second had 11 year old brother, went to NRJ Music Award, experienced French thanksgiving. Visited Paris, Monaco, skiing in the Alps. During the holidays experienced home sickness. Stated with second host family for remainder of her year abroad. March – struggled with school and switched schools to host mom’s school. Snow shoeing and skiing weekend with fellow youth exchange. April – best month – 17th birthday, European bus tour and her family came to visit. Euro tour visited Paris, Strasbourg, Munich, Prague, Vienna, Venice, Milan, and Chamonix. Met fellow New Englander and will get to see her again this Summer. May – start of goodbyes, last rotary event, and Cannes Film Festival and saw a Brazilian film. June – final goodbyes, and the return home was a culture shock. Gained friendships, experiences, independence, and maturity. Learned a lot about the French culture and her own culture, and how we are portrayed. Thanks from Phoebe to rotary and the Rotarians who helped make it happen.
