The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm with the pledge of allegiance and prayer.

 

Fred still wants a few more names to help with voting in Meredith. To participate, you must be a registered voter and a resident of Meredith. For those signing up, please don’t wear anything with an organization name on it, such as Rotary T-shirts.

We still need signups for the Senior Dinner in December – contact Wendy if you can help.

John Moulton presented the dinner for the evening. He introduced Kali, who was providing
dinner. Kali is Jim Whitehouse’s daughter. The menu includes Seasonal salad with Brussels
sprouts and apple cider-inspired chicken. The side is spaghetti squash fritters, baguettes, and pumpkin pie.

Fred indicated how much we appreciate the dinners from Moulton Farm. They have been
excellent.

Guests: Our Speaker is Mary Moriarty, Superintendent of Schools in Meredith; her
husband John Moriarty; Charle Hanson, Chair of the School Board; Mark Carsons, Dir of
Technology for the School District; Steve Hoiberg; Pat McFarlin and Cathy Reichlen.
 

• We received a thank-you from Sandwich Children’s Center for donating to them. They will use the donation for rest mats for cubbies and an all-weather playground storage shelf for teachers.
• Gary has foundation minutes. To see your contribution level, go to Myrotary.org, sign in with your member number, and select Rotary Foundation from the pull-down menu.
• Next week, we are back at Harts.
• We will be on the left on the back next week. The Robotics team is coming next week.

Ron is making significant progress on Loon Center.

The emblems are in for Rotary for areas we have built/contributed to:
They are being placed at Town Docks and Lakeview Cemetery. 25b in the center harbor
– ball field – Rotary build two dugouts. Meredith Ballfield, where we built two dugouts.
Decking, Gazebo, and other places.

 

Heidi, public announcement – The Orchestra Lakes Region Symphony concert is this
weekend

Brian – The Trunk or Treat - 200 brochures, lots of Candy – Peanut butter cups and
gushers are the top two candies in NH – which Rotary handed out. Brian was told a story:
I met a man who, 30 years ago, spent 364 days in the Philippines on a Rotary Youth
Exchange. This experience changed his life. He had not been in the right place until then, which was critical to his future – he figured himself out.

 

 

Gary – The end of October, So 538 pairs of socks. He has gotten good at
changing dollars into socks. Adding Care Closet onto the recipient list for socks. Fitz
called, and he had a box of socks. He collected socks from his company and contributed
them. 150 pairs of socks.

 

Happy Dollars:

 

Numbers for the happy dollars were pulled – Our guest Speaker picked the first
number. The second number was pulled for the last of the fishing derby apparel. Jim’s wife
picked it.

 

John Moulton introduced our guest speakers, Mary Moriarty and Charlie Hanson. She
is the Superintendent of Schools for Meredith, and he is the current chairman of the
School Board.

 

Charlie kicked the session off and thanked us for all we had done. He gave us a
brief overview of what the school board does. Those individuals – three
communities (Center Harbor, Meredith, and Sandwich) vote for the school board.
Set policies, hire an administrator, and oversee the budget.

Mary: Appreciates the generosity of Rotary. Students appreciate and recognize
what Rotary does for the students. She told the story of her parents. Her points:
- Every child has a different story and different journey
- Imperative that every child has a well-rounded education
- They are well-supported in the community
- 250 students that get lunch, 175 students that get special education services
- Spoke about the statistics from the 23/24 school year
- $82K in local scholarships for 2024
- Spoke about Running Start – the ability to take college courses in high school.
- 35 students attend Huot Program – Career and Technical programs
- 39 Scholastic Art Awards,
- Traveling Holocaust Museum is coming to the Meredith Library in 2025
