OPENING: President Craig welcomed everyone and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ted offered tonight’s prayer.
VISITORS/GUESTS: Jasmine Morrisette from Interact who has the program tonight. Potential new members Shelly Bushman and Jeff Malcom, Bill Golden, John Columbus, Carl and Barb Ciak. Also visiting tonight are Kathy DOeg from MVSG and FITZ!
Announcements: There is a Derby meeting next week, following the program. There is a Youth Exchange meeting tonight. We received a thank you from Ann Sprague at Community Caregivers for our donation. Their recent concert raised $16,000!!! Gary Dehnel thanked everyone for 400 pairs of the socks donated for Soxtober – a total of 1,300 pairs. Welcome back Kevin Kelly-who, of course, cheered us with a story. Craig said he found Brian’s Pittsburgh Steelers hat that he left at Hart’s last week, and has enhanced it for Brian… shhh…. Don’t tell. Gary gave a Rotary sweatshirt to Jasmine. The Interact Club has changed their name to be Interact of Interlakes, and will include 7th and 8th graders. On Monday they will have their annual banquet We have gotten a Microcredit grand for a student named Samuel in Rwanda for the whole year! Donna collected over $600 from members for the NH Veteran’s Home!!! EXCELLENT. We will do again next week to celebrate Veteran’s Day.
The Interact club will be involved in Cupcakes for a Cause, the Children’s Auction, the Senior Dinner and will be singing Christmas Carols at the NH Veteran’s Home on 12/14, if you’d like to participate-contact Gary. We will be getting a bob house from Jayson Dand (not sure of this name), who is building it and needs some donations for materials!
Fines: No fines tonight, only happy dollars. Bob Kennelly is happy to have a new fridge. Ray has had breakfast with some of the potential members for some arm twisting! John Moulton was happy that he had the presence of mind to be awake last week to receive a much deserved Paul Harris Award. Wendy is happy that her friend Kathy is here and so is Anne White. Potential member Shelly is glad to meet Carl and the rest of the gang. Dean is happy that the Youth Exchange paperwork for the Department of State – which is doing an audit – is in good shape.
Program Notes: Jasmine, who is president of the Interact Club, provided the program tonight, discussing the June World Affairs seminar she attended along with Interact kids from all over the world, in Wisconsin. This is a week long event with speakers addressing all types of issues including technology in society, leading links of service, etc. The students had to “pitch” a 10 minute talk on technology in everyone’s life and find out what others are doing, share information worldwide –sharing voices. They had a “model United Nations” group representing different sides of technology, listening to others and working together to allow everyone to discuss challenges to the environment and other world-changing topics. There were 500 students from Nepal, Turks & Caicos Islands and everywhere! Next year, Jasmine will graduate and work as a pastor with children’s youth ministries. Great presentation from a tremendously talented, articulate young lady. Thanks Jasmine.
