At 6-ish President Kevin opened the meeting in person at Twin Barns and via Zoom … with tech support provided by Harry and Bruce Reichlen.

The Pledge was next
Prayer by Rev John Eaton … followed by a self-described “mediocre” joke by President Kevin. (Is this what the year is going to be like?)

Mr. President reviewed Rotary Citation Award noting that we, as a Club, are far and away ahead of the crowd.

Program: our very own Art Clough, PDG!
Art gave a brief history of his Rotary experiences staring with John Sherman badgering him for years until he joined in 1976 … when he became a “member”. After one of our illustrious summer barbecues, Art became a “Rotarian”.
Art was in on the inception of the First Fishing Derby by attending a District Conference.
In the beginning, the Club gave out loans for scholarships. After they were not repaid, we started awarding them – especially after the Derby became a financial success.
Then Youth Exchange was started, and Art and Del got “back doored” into the program by their son going to Mexico as an Exchange Student and then they hosted Jesus in exchange. They continue to keep in touch with many of the students around the world!
When Art complained about the way the Youth Exchange was run, he was back doored again; this time he became the District Governor. Their travels through meeting people took them to India multiple times.
He chaired ESSEX – the Eastern Region of Youth Exchange – renowned throughout the country. He could not have done this without Del!
If that was not enough, Hesky Park was the next project … $90,000 – with a $68,000 loan and grants – Meredith Rotary Club did it! The Club received a Presidential Citation for the Project.
Next came the Polio Plus Campaign.  What Art looks forward to is the End of polio. Two or three countries remain.  Art and Del helped immunize children in India.  That day 130 million polio drops in India!
Next, Del jumps into an ambassadorship for Shelter Box – an ongoing campaign for temporary, safe housing during crisis events around the world.
Art waxed eloquent about Paul Harris Fellowships. He expressed his most sincere gratitude for orphanage in India, water projects, Shelter Box ambassadors, and Florida elementary school support.
Last thought: Most important is to bring in a new member and keep him/her busy and involved!

Happy $
Gary Dehenel – no new news
Teresa – the kids moved out! $ deferred!
Tim – grandmother’s 99th birthday
Tom F – happy to be back
Carl – Thank you, Art & Del, for all you do for us.
Kevin – “tearful” goodbye to the 11 family members that will be leaving this week.

4 Way Test at 7:11, and meeting adjourned.
