MINUTES: February 8, 2023
FISHING DERBY MINUS THREE DAYS
President Heidi opened the meeting at 6:02 PM. There were no guests.
Dan led us in prayer for a safe and successful Fishing Derby. Derby Chair Bill Golden reported that in spite of thin and NO ice on many waters in the state ticket sales were ONLY down 1.6% to date and activity remained brisk. Bill extended a big thank you to Tiffany, Harry and Donna Fodero who have handled the bulk of ticket sales. Fred spoke about anticipated trailer operations cautioning everyone to heed all Covid advisories. Bruce reported that the new satellite system at the trailer was up and performing well.
A final video and email BLAST will be going out to thank all Derby participants and to urge them to be especially cognizant of varying ice conditions. It was noted that the trailer site is surrounded by open water!!! Some eager fishing enthusiasts have asked if under these ice conditions if they could fish from shore. Fish and Game came back with an emphatic NO… one MUST be standing on ice and take their catch through the ice.
As Chair Bill returned to his seat he received a resounding applause!
Dick Pendergast, assisted by Teresa, proceeded to explain the final day’s ticket sale procedure and distributed vendor bags to those Rotarians who will be selling tickets offsite up until noon on Saturday. The procedure varies very little from previous years. All returns will be made to Dick and his finance gurus in the ‘War Room”.
Bonnie will be meeting with the Social Committee shortly. Thoughts are for cross-country skiing, a bowling night and more coming up soon. Stay tuned!
HAPPY DOLLARS: Several Rotarians made donations in quest for a successful Derby and in gratitude to all those who have already spent to make it happen. Bob K. was happy for having two daughters visit; Jim McFarlin in anticipation of a long awaited medical procedure that will “rollback years” of his life, Kevin thanked the Derby Committee; Fred reported on a loon’s successful battle with a eagle; Heidi thanked all for successful Derby preparation. She also shared her grateful completion of a 35 year art project… made of fabric stretched on a frame depicting a vase of flowers. She didn’t say in which gallery it will be displayed!
Fifty-fifty raffle was won by Heidi. Meeting adjourned at 7:02 pm
