President Fred called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM and led us in the pledge. Dan led us in prayer.

Dinner from Moulton Farm: Asiago Bread, Roasted golden and red beets with oranges and mixed green salad, herbed roasted chicken and veggies with gravy, and apple pie! Everything was delicious!
Announcements:
Kevin updated us on the Foundation. The foundation was created in 1917. Arch Klum wanted to set up an endowment with the goal of doing well in the world. With 35,000 clubs worldwide and 1.4 million members, Rotary brings excellent power, and the foundation has raised over 4 billion dollars since 1917. The Foundation has a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator. If everyone in the club could kick in $10 each to the Foundation, we would have 100% participation! November is Foundation Month.
Gary reminded us that it’s Sockstober! 3400 pairs of socks were collected last year and distributed, and we donated 792 pairs of socks. Lakes Region club beat us last year for most donated pairs. It’s on! We’re going to knock their socks off this year!
Bonnie said we’re meeting at Heskey Park on October 12 at 8:45 to clean up the bay. You’ll receive a T-shirt, snacks, and a clean-up bag. Eight people, plus Interact students, have signed up. The cleaning commitment is 9-11 AM, with an after-party following. Let Bonnie Ireland know if you would like to participate.
Jim McFarlin motions for the club to approve Jack Foster’s membership, and Bob Kennelly seconds. The motion passes unanimously. Jim made Jack’s membership official with induction and the presentation of the Rotarian membership pin.
Dan said that the Loon Project Center shed is coming along well. Trusses are the next step, and they need at least one more person to help with the higher part of the work—Tuesday from 8 to 12, October 8. Please get in touch with Dan, Ron, John Columbus, or Tim to help.
Wendy announced that the first derby meeting was on October 9 at 5 PM at the MBCC. Meetings will be on the second Wednesday of each month.
Harry said there was another successful Styrofoam collection day. Thanks to all who helped out.

- Bob is happy the Mets won, and he took four grandkids to the Bronx Zoo.
- Dan is pleased with the crew helping them build the shed at the Loon Center.
- Gary for jumping in waves at North Troro with the grandkids as he did as a kid.
- Dean for successful RYE event and he and Jan in Quebec City.
- Janine’s son will bring the fishing derby trailer back to the site.
- Chuck is looking forward to a visit from an old Navy buddy he hasn’t seen in 35 years. Kevin welcomes Jack and is excited that Dan is coming to his house to complete a project. Jim is happy that Jack Foster is now a member of our club.

Featured Presentation
Bob Kennelly’s presentation on the Investment Committee. $227,000 was invested in a moderately aggressive portfolio. We were up 19%, which is better than the benchmark. We try to maintain a balance between $200 and $250,000.
Bob also presented on Ultimate Disc. It was invented in 1968 at Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ. There are no officials or referees. Meant to play for fun and self-regulated. Ten simple rules: The field size, how to start play, scoring, disc movement, change of possession, substitutions, non-contact, fouls, self-officiating, and game spirit.
Constant movement, lots of running, and three basic disc throws. The sport has grown from high school to college to club teams with national championships, and now, there is a professional league. Bob then showed us some highlight films. His team has reunions every year. Millions of people play this worldwide, and there is lots of comradery! Could it one day be in the Olympics? Time will tell.
President Fred led us in the 4-way test. The meeting adjourned at 7:20 PM.
