February 7 2024 Rotary Meeting

President Wendy called the meeting to order at 6pm. The pledge of allegiance followed.

Dan, in his prayer, is hopeful for a successful fishing derby and shares good wishes for our friends who are not in good health.

They are going on trip in May to Quebec, cultural activities including eating snow with sugar, seeing a waterfall that is taller than Niagara Falls, and speaking French. They have raised a lot of the funding and are super grateful to Rotary’ contributions.

Announcements

See Bonnie if you’re interested in bowling at Funspot next Wednesday February 14.
No Meeting February 14 in observance of Valentines Day.
Derby Celebration Dinner is February 21. Buffet dinner is $25 per person for members and guests.
There will be a Rotary Ski Day on Thursday, February 29^th at Gunstock. Please let Bonnie Ireland know if you will be skiing.
No meetings March 6 for school board and March 13 for town meeting.
Dean reminded us of his email about finding host families for exchange students. We need two people to volunteer, or we will end our 44-year streak of hosting. The semesters run August to January and January to June and there are backup people available if you have conflicts during the time.
Bill has some Superbowl squares still available!

Dean is happy for the trip he and Jan just took to the Galapagos Islands
Bruce is happy that he’s going to host an exchange student next year, we just need one more family. We are super appreciative Bruce and Cathy!
Gary’s daughter and son in law are supportive with the derby for his birthday with an imaginative pun-filled card
Erin and Bill’s family has several band and hockey events
Chuck, Kevin, Mike and Bill all recognized the students field trip with a major donation
Kevin is back from visiting kids and grandchildren with many special family events
Bob skied with his brace after knee and family coming to visit
Dan’s knee surgery worked and he is now 2 inches taller!

421 tickets have been sold this week. 2465 total sales so far this year including online and mail in. Plus, in addition, we have the vendor sales coming. So, we are close to breaking even and on a great path for a strong showing.

Betsey gave us a preview of the derby merchandise for sale at a special price for Rotarians only until Friday. This is how amazing the shirt design looks with all the lakes in the state designed into the graphic:

Gary shared that the Interact bob house is ready and raffle tickets are available.

Remember to cross off your name on the raffle ticket if you want to support the cause and

don’t want to win.

This is the most important week of the year for us! Staffing is looking great and there are still a few opportunities to volunteer. We need some soup makers for both Saturday and Sunday. Wendy/Mike have the details.

Fishing Derby Ticket packets must be turned in by Saturday at Noon, so please submit them on Friday or early Saturday morning. Bring them to the reconciliation room on Foundry Ave.

If you have a vendor location selling shift, it’s important to count the sold and unsold tickets, record the totals on the sheet and make sure that the ticket count matches with the money tally (that must be a multiple of $40). Checks made out to Meredith Rotary and cash are OK. Some tickets were misprinted without a ticket number - Tear in half or discard - do not sell them.

Trailer Location: If you sell by credit card, make sure to print a copy of the credit card receipt to include in your bag so your totals match.

We have one remaining ticket pickup run for a volunteer to Rochester Saturday at 9am.

If someone has bought a ticket online and lost it, you can look it up and issue a duplicate ticket. If they lost a ticket purchased at a vendor location, they must purchase a new ticket. This is only until Noon Saturday after which new tickets must be purchased. Details are available in the trailer.

If your fish knowledge is limited to one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, look at this before the big weekend:
