President Heidi opened the meeting followed by the Pledge and Prayer.
 
Guests:  Fitz – as usual, Bob Maloney, and Laura, our speaker.
 
Did you know moment: A chameleon’s tongue is twice as long as its body.
 
Announcements:
Fred Strader announced, and we voted on two new members – Eric Petell and Jordan Murray. Jordan was here this evening and gracefully accepted her membership.
 
Chairman Bill noted that we are 5 weeks away from Derby. Ticket sales up 6.5% from last year. Note from our tech team – there is a button on the website provides a reprint of the ticket. Mike Pelczar has everything lined up on his end. Trailer will be on site by Jan 28th. Yankee Magazine approached us for a “guide” and local characters – of which we have many - for their publication.
 
Interact Bobhouse builders are on track to complete this year’s construction.
Jim McFarlin updated us on his scanning project of the Derby history with accolades for the equipment at the library.
 
Youth Exchange meeting following tonight’s meeting.
 
Program:
Laura Brusseau, Director of Development for Catholic Charities NH.  She is a Paul Harris Fellow and formerly active in Interact.
 
Multiple programs that cover the state. The extensive list includes:
  • NH Food Bank covers multiple Food Pantries. Over 17 million pounds of food were distributed in 2021.
  • Care Givers – mostly in Manchester and Nashua and now entering the Lakes Region.
  • Immigration and Legal Services – started in 1974.
  • Liberty House – transitional home for veterans that includes Ezra, a “comfort” dog
  • Mental Health Counseling
  • Monadnock at Home – similar to Care Givers – in the region
  • Our Place provides parenting and pregnancy counseling.
  • New Generation – in Greenland, a transitional home for pregnant women and single mothers.
  • St. Charles School in Rochester
  • Community Services in ten towns covering the state – outreach for resources available.
  • Healthcare Services – nursing homes
How to Help?   Volunteer.
94% of funds go to services. 1 in 12 NH residents are served.
Signature Event – Mardi Gras Gala Feb 11, 2023 at the Doubletree in Manchester.
May 13, 2023 – Touch a Truck Event that benefits veterans.
