Jay Brown, a visiting Rotarian from Baton Rouge, LA, spoke about his time as a Rotarian!  He shared the following facts:

  • Past District Governor 6200
  • 41 years of perfect attendance
  • Has visited 68 countries as part of Rotary.
  • Paul Harris “winner”
  • 4th largest club- 524 members
  • Hurricane in Port Charles and his club donated $100k
  • He up to see the fall leaves!

The featured speaker is Ray Moritz.

  • Project: The dam and spillway need to be replaced for safety reasons. Discussions were held in partnership with the Town of Meredith, DES, NH Hospitality, and the owner of Mills Falls Inn.
  • The left wall of the flume is crumbling.
  • The project will not impact Main Street, but Dover Street is a different story. We are trying to schedule it to have the least impact on tourists and “regulars.”
  • The project is in the planning phases and will be kicked off in the spring of 2025
  • The project will be completed in 4 phases
  • It will take 3 years to complete
  • The cost is $8 Million, and it is Mostly Funded by FEMA (about $6 million—it is the number one dam in need of repair in the state of NH) and Hampshire Hospitality.
  • The result is a safe and automated dam that improves the aesthetics of the spillway.
  • Wishlist- Gate House Moved to Hesky Park (it’s historic, and nothing is being done about it!)
