Hamilton-McMaster Rotaract Club Raises $2,000 for Mini University Scholarships

On March 4, 2010, the Hamilton-McMaster Rotaract Club, based at McMaster University, hosted its fourth annual Gala Fundraiser, just one of many community and international service projects club members take on each year. This year, club members decided to raise funds for scholarships to send students from Hamilton’s Hess Street elementary school to McMaster’s Mini-University summer camp. The funds raised total $2,000, which is enough to cover the costs of the camp and transportation for four Hess Street students this summer.

The Gala Fundraiser, held at McMaster’s University Club, brought together Rotaractors and Rotarians from Hamilton, Brantford, St. Catherines, and surrounding areas, as well as members of the broader McMaster and Hamilton communities. The University Club generously donated the premises for the event. It was a particularly special occasion as the club honoured long-time supporter and mentor Ellard J. McBane from the Hamilton AM Rotary Club. Ellard has been a tireless supporter of students and has worked for many years to help McMaster Rotaractors develop leadership skills. The Mini-University scholarships were thus named the Ellard J. McBane scholarships in his honour.
